Why You'll Never See a 200Mbps Internet Connection

That's all dependant on how much data the site is sending to people. For cheat sites, the bandwidth wouldn't be too bad, since a lot of it is text, but for sites with lots of images, the bandwidth can be intense (if you're a larger site). But yeah, it's far more important to have a good upload...

    Our Graphics Card Testing Suite

That's what's called a "timedemo", and we pride ourselves on not using them. Actually, the only time did we use them was for our first-ever GPU review, so we've been "clean" for a good four years ;-) Timedemos have been debated for years, but I've come to the conclusion that actually playing...

    Our Graphics Card Testing Suite

Hmm, I swore I responded to this. Sorry for the late response folks... I considered GRID, but the main issue is that it's a difficult game, and each run is different than the last. That means that each run varies too heavily, and results cannot be compared. I might genuinely suck at racing...

    Games you are playing

Ahh, I have R&C: Tools of Destruction downloaded, but I'm not quite through the original yet. This series is quite spectacular though. Not your ordinary platformer, that's for sure. Plus, there's humor that actually makes me laugh out loud. That's rare for a game series to do. Ahh, Valkyria...

Using the Eee PC to pick locks

With the popularity of the Eee PC, ASUS has to be very creative in figuring out how to improve upon it, and with the efficient R&D team, they need to figure out which features need to be included on the next model. Ever lose your keys? Well, you're going to love a new feature on the 1008HA Eee...

    Common Reasons People Leave Linux

I didn't realize that simply having both plugged in would affect anything... that's too bad. Makes you wonder why anyone "needs" a 1KW PSU at all. Your PC could easily get by on 800W, and there, you could have used both at the same time on the same circuit ;-)

    Mini-itx Barebone systems....

It depends on how small these people want their machines, and what they want it to do. Acer just released their ION-based AspireRevo not long ago, and it looks like it has a lot of potential. It's a lot smaller than the Shuttle solutions I've seen. MSI Wind might be similar, but since I've seen...

    Facebook

Ahh, that's cool. Facebook is great for that kind of thing. For me, about 95% of the people on my friends list there are business friends, so that's what I try to use Facebook for personally. Don't feel bad if I "ignore" every little game or doo-dad that you send along... I've not once ever...

Why You'll Never See a 200Mbps Internet Connection

Well, there are actually quite a bit of servers that can output far beyond 200Mbit/s, but it's a matter of whether or not you'll get that server all to yourself or not. Some Linux distro mirrors, for example, have 1Gbit/s upload, so if you happened to have everything in order for a 200Mbit/s...

    TV sets falling on kids...

Well, that's the thing... these are front-heavy, but if it's just sitting there on a stable surface, it shouldn't fall over. Honestly, I can see issues with TVs mounted to the wall more than I can old-school tube TVs. It's far too easy to screw up installation of a wall-mount than it is to set a...

    Common Reasons People Leave Linux

What does the power supply have to do with anything? Haha. Let us know how you make out regardless, and if you run into any problems, let us know (starting a new thread wouldn't be a bad idea though).

    Supermicro Launches Intel Atom-based Servers

I agree, Nano is a perfect fit for something like this. I also agree on this being an extreme niche product right now, but I do hope we see more uses for such servers. The power draw differences between even a dual-core Xeon machine and the Atom or Nano rig is stark, and if one company managed...

    Duke Nukem Still Alive!!?

To be honest, I'm surprised that given the incredible development cycle for this game, only $20m was pumped into it. That said, it's hard to say who's right and who's wrong here, but it's clear that the game should have been out by now, because money doesn't grow on trees. I like the fact that...

Futuremark Announces "Lords of Overclocking" Event

From our front-page news: Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the intense emphasis put on overclocking in the past year? Just last summer, ASUS and Gigabyte held their own overclocking championships, and Gigabyte in particular saw enough value to continue holding the same this year. In...

In which Greg gets a "green" HDD

It likely doesn't affect performance, but it no doubt affects stability. I one time was forced to install a fan over the hard drive when I first got a 750GB, because it overheated (almost hit 60C), and it resulted in the PC crashing.

Microsoft Adds Internet Media Streaming to Windows 7 RC

From our front-page news: Something that Microsoft loves to do with their latest Windows releases is to include a lot of new functionality (some people call this bloated), and sometimes, a new application or feature they bundle actually gets rid of the need to download another similar...

    ASUS W90 18.4" Notebook - A True Desktop Replacement

Well, there's a lot going on right now around the site, especially with regards to Computex planning, and with this time-sensitive piece of content looming over my head, I feel like I couldn't devote as much time to it as I had wanted. I guess the article itself turned out alright, but I would...

In which Greg gets a "green" HDD

It's nice to know that these drives are worth the extra few dollars... even in a desktop machine, lower temperatures is not a bad thing. You'd of course want your main drive to have speed, but storage drives don't need to be the fastest hard drives available.

Learning Someone Else's Lesson: Offsite Backups

It's a fair amount of work to get a good backup script working in the first place... mainly because of the planning. You need to make sure that things are timed properly, but given that our server is fast and there's not much traffic at 4:00AM, it's never a problem. Plus, the entire process now...

    HAF mod Water Cooling

No offense to your machine... I've just had my fill of blue I think. Any gaming chassis I've had, even the Sniper I have now, is blue. I'm partial to red... wouldn't mind seeing more of that, or purple even. And yes, I agree... green is really overused also, especially where water-cooled rigs...
