Are You Upgrading to Windows 7?

I don't use Windows often at all, but I'm still loving it. I've had a couple of BSOD's, but I have a good feeling that's a hardware issue, not a software one (since I occasionally crash in Linux as well). I'm just trying to hold off on upgrading for as long as possible, since USB 3.0 and S-ATA 6...

I agree with you both. I am not saying it was the best thing out there, but it still brings back memories!

This is, without question, my favorite quote from this forum thus far.

    water cooling

In case I'm missing it completely, what CPU did you settle on Psi*? It's too bad that the hexa-core processors will be out within the next six months (or so that's the plan). To be honest, if you CAN hold off at all, I'd recommend going with a Core i7-920 for the time-being, and when the...

Need advice on choosing a PCI soundcard

I'm no audiophile... and I can't be more clear on that, but when it comes down to the Creative at £230 and the Xonar Essence STX for almost half that... I'd have to recommend the latter. It's a fantastic card, and has even been praised by some of the most serious audiophiles, which is a...

    A quicky survey...

I'm not sure if it's still the case today, but years ago, Winamp used to deliver horrible (when compared to better options) audio quality, sometimes even noticeable by the most layman music listener. There were various reasons for this, one being that it layered too many audio-enhancemence...

    Old-school speed typer

You might be right... I didn't even notice. Seems kind of obvious, though. Sometime last week, brother was watching me do something on the PC, and rather than typing out a serial code for a game we were going to play multi-player, I copy/pasted it into the box. He said, "Wow, you should be on...

    Cheap, but completely compatible system?

It's kind of sad, isn't it? Friend was in that predicament a while ago. He wanted to upgrade his S939 rig to an X2, and it was just impossible. This was about two years after he built that machine. Upgrading either the RAM or CPU was going to be too much of a pain in the ass, to say the least...

    PSU calculator

Of course. That seems obvious to us technical folk, but for few people using these calculators are going to take things like this into consideration. It's interesting logic, though, because it pretty-much would debunk the need for this calculator at all. Just purchase a big PSU and be done with...

    power supply failures

I've been hearing this a lot lately, unfortunately. A friend on Facebook the other night made the comment, "<em>2 dead OCZ PSUs in a row, unacceptable</em>." I had a GameXStream die on me earlier this year (in all fairness, the Antec I replaced it with died two months later as well... huge...

    NZXT M59 Mid-Tower

That's just it... huge value for the buck. I'll be hands-on with the same model chassis in the coming weeks, so I'll be able to add my own two cents at that time.

Using the ASUS Xonar Essence STX Under Linux

Hah, that's a cool trick. I'll have to keep that in mind for the future should I run into a similar issue. It's unfortunate to require the route of using two mixers, but it could be worse I guess. I believe KMix grabs it's data straight from alsamixer... while Pulseaudio must be a little lighter...

    Intel's 34nm TRIM Firmware & SSD Toolbox

Few people would argue that the solid-state drive is one of the best types of storage ever created, but there have been certain downsides up to this point. Aside from general pricing, eventual slowdowns caused some to think twice about a purchase. But, TRIM, along with Windows 7, is here, and...

    R.I.P.: Geocities

From our front-page news: GeoCities. Chances are, if you've been on the Internet since the mid-to-late 1990's, you have something to say about GeoCities. You might hate the service, as it resulted in thousands of useless websites, or you might have nothing but praise, since it was an outlet that...

Using the ASUS Xonar Essence STX Under Linux

Bah, I wish I could help there. I admit that I haven't touched Pulseaudio much at all outside of testing out distros that happen to use it as default. So, I'm not familiar at all with these "control panel improvements", but I'm curious enough to check those out soon. I think it's safe to jump to...

    NZXT M59 Mid-Tower

I tend to agree... I don't like the front panel design at all. On the other hand, I have a friend that liked the case so much, that out of NZXT's entire collection, that's the one she chose to get for her upcoming PC build (before she even knew the price), so there isn't one design to suit us...

    NZXT M59 Mid-Tower

The value in PC components today is fantastic, with the chassis being no exception. With its M59 mid-tower chassis, NZXT proves that value doesn't have to mean cheap, as this one is packed. It features a cool design, LED lighting, features usually only seen on higher-end models, and of course, a...

Apple's Pricing Premiums Never Cease to Impress

Because Apple doesn't send us products. I have no interest in them myself, so why waste the money just to get a review up? We've tested with Apple-related content in the past, and it didn't do near as well as our other content, or our Linux content for that matter, so there's no immediate reason...

    Logitech Announces G110 Gaming Keyboard

I'm aware that F-Lock != Function Keys, but what I was getting at is that I <em>never</em> need one of the function keys, so the F-Lock is nothing but a pain in the rear. I've almost died in my MMORPG a few times because my F keys wouldn't work when I needed them to ;-) That's exactly my...

Apple's Pricing Premiums Never Cease to Impress

Ahh, that could be. Not that this can be considered a plus. The HD 4670 on the desktop isn't too impressive, and a mobile card is likely to offer only half of the performance of that one. Apple's one of the worst companies to deal with regarding samples of any sort. I've e-mailed them in the...
