What do I need for 1Gbit Ethernet?

This is something I am in the process of figuring out. While for one test, I'd like to do real-world copies, I think some synthetic benchmark should be introduced that can properly saturate the pipe. I've talked to Brett about a program before but I forgot the name of it, and I'm sure Glider...

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 FleX Review

Building an Eyefinity setup is easier than ever, thanks in part to the powerful GPUs we have the choice of, and also the easier-to-stomach pricing of 20~24" displays. Sapphire, with its FleX, makes things even easier by giving us a card that negates the requirement for a DisplayPort monitor...

What do I need for 1Gbit Ethernet?

I ended up taking the overkill route for the network card (Intel I-340, ~$325), although a ~$100 Intel NIC should do just fine. For the router, I went with NETGEAR's WNDR3700 (~$130), which I love. I didn't know what a reliable router was until I got this thing. With a previous router I had...

Corsair SP2500 2.1 Gaming Speakers Review

I am surprised at the infatuation with 5.1 to be honest. Not once have I ever gamed and felt like I needed 5.1... I've long been content with a component 2.0 or 2.1 setup. I'm more interested in GOOD quality audio than directional audio.

Corsair SP2500 2.1 Gaming Speakers Review

With the launch of its HS1 headset last fall, Corsair proved that the audio market wasn't one it was planning on jumping into without first making sure that its products would impress. But what about those gamers that don't like to use headphones? The answer is the SP2500, a speaker set with a...

    MVM Temp Files?

I have no idea how you found that, but thanks a ton! It is indeed Photoshop that's causing the problem. I didn't realize that with PS closed, I could delete those files fine... I've always tried to delete them when I've had PS open I guess, so I've never had much luck. Would be nice if the temp...

AMD Radeon HD 6990 Dual-GPU Graphics Card Review

That's the problem. MOST games are just that... console-ports. Some just happen to do a better job at porting over to the PC better than others, like Bulletstorm or Dirt 2.

AMD Radeon HD 6990 Dual-GPU Graphics Card Review

Ugh... that sounds like a true console port, right there. The GameTrailers review said that on the console, the game has the tendency to literally halt on occasions, while the PC version seemed to be smooth. Perhaps I'll not benchmark with DAII then. I had expected it to be a lot better.

Did you hear about this NVIDIA Dual-GPU, Rob?

That card... is quite done up :D I could imagine that if it does actually go on sale, it's not going to be cheap, and in fact might cost a lot more than the HD 6990. I'd still like to see NVIDIA come out with its own solution though.

AMD Radeon HD 6990 Dual-GPU Graphics Card Review

I watched GameTrailers' review of Dragon Age II and I'd have to agree on the battle system... it doesn't appeal to me too much. I'd still give it a chance though.

AMD Radeon HD 6990 Dual-GPU Graphics Card Review

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it :D WHY YOU LITTLE... Actually, with the mass of games that are coming out in March, I am likely to do a full suite revamp in early April, and when I do... I'll introduce DX11 into Metro 2033 ;-) (Other games are looking to be Shogun 2, Dragon Age II...

    new build 2.0

First and foremost, the i7-920 has been stable at 4.4GHz since the machine was built? And remained so through all of the brutal computations you've streamed through it? If so, then that's great to hear :D I feel like I can barely get a 4GHz stable overclock for more than a couple of days, let...

    Google Chrome 10.0 Stable Released

Well, I like Chrome, but I don't at all find it stable. I used to, but things just seem to be getting worse. As an example, if I middle-click a bookmark to open up a webpage in a new tab (but keep it in the background), and that page happens to have an automatic login prompt pop-up, the entire...

Netbook - plugged in not charging error

That error tends to happen when the battery is near-full, not near-empty. You might want to plug it in and go into the BIOS to see if there is some battery calibration feature. Another might be to go into Windows and disable all power-related features, such as "shut down with 5% battery", so...

    MVM Temp Files?

Hi all: I've had an issue for a good while under Windows where each one of my installed hard drives have a ton of mvm_tmp files on them, in the root folder, and I have no idea how they got there. I don't have any application installed that looks similar ot MVM, and I've Google searched up...

    A Look at AMD's Catalyst 11.4 Driver

I do wonder about that also. I know a lot of people that purchase NVIDIA for the PhysX support, but I don't know a single person who relies on a CUDA-based app (that I'm aware of, at least). It's just unfortunate that AMD couldn't adopt PhysX if it wanted to, and I don't know how many competing...

Problems Arise with Seagate's Momentus XT Mobile HDDs

Haha, no kidding. I'm hoping that'll change soon, though. I just don't feel like re-installing the OS :-/

    A Look at AMD's Catalyst 11.4 Driver

With our look at AMD's Radeon HD 6990 out of the way, we've decided to shift some focus over to AMD's upcoming Catalyst driver, 11.4, to see all of what it's bringing to the table. Read on as we explore its improvements and additions, and also evaluate AMD's results for multi-monitor performance...

AMD Radeon HD 6990 Dual-GPU Graphics Card Review

Haha, with you, I was a little worried you were going to faint :D I have to admit, I am not quite sure exactly what kind of information you're looking for. Are you able to elaborate? In the case of the dual-GPU HD 5970, yes, it is downclocked, but to see how it compares to say, HD...

Western Digital Purchases Hitachi's Storage Unit

In news that came as a big shock to a lot of people, Western Digital yesterday announced that it would be acquiring Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, and at the same time, gaining ownership to Hitachi's entire line of mechanical hard drives for both the desktop, OEM and enterprise market. Why...
