Last Motherboard question then i should be ready so need ya help peeps!!

Opinion ... in the next few or several months the next level of m/bs will be coming out. These would be m/bs with PCIe 3.0 which is twice as fast as the current PCIe 2.1. A year ago these were predicted to be available now. So depending on your patience level, I would wait a little more &...

Intel Z68 SSD Disk Caching Showdown

Nice graphic to work from ... The PCIe spec is only up to 32 lanes. So I wonder if that is a typo & I don't think any more than 16 lanes are implemented given the size of our PCIe connectors. Very confusing. Regardless, we are now using faster hardware than was conceived being...

Intel Z68 SSD Disk Caching Showdown

Wondering ... The video card used is PCIe 16 lane. Could it be reducing the available bandwidth or interacting with, the bandwidth available to the SSDs even tho the SSDs are SATA II? I was just about to post a new thread wondering about a discrepancy that I am experiencing. I have 2 systems...

@Kayden ... raptr game profile ... where? Thinkin' & remembered a little more; All of the play was within or just outside the gates of a castle. The castle had 2 towers at each side. I vaguely remember that there was a wide paraput/roof (over a large building with rooms) directly between the...

Battle of the SATA 3.0 Controllers

I just bought from 'egg the 6405 + WD 1 TB HDD to use with the Corsair FORCE 3 I just recieved. I am thinking that this would be a bit of a hedge on the future for one of my machines (1 of 4) as I like to milk as many years as possible from each box. I very briefly scoped out faster local...

It wasn't Castle and I am working thru that list of Medieval games, but am thinking no, but there are a lot of games there. It was also a multi-player game, or at least 2 could play against each other. Discovering that a weapons cache could be blown up just before your opponent could get to it...

I am trying to remember what game this is. I'll try to describe it the best I can. The setting is a castle with 2 towers. A unique feature of the game is that weapons caches would appear and could be exploded with the careful shot & killing anyone nearby. What I pictue is being at the top of a...

Battle of the SATA 3.0 Controllers

One would really have to have a need for speed to make this jump. But if one did, I noticed this at Adaptec. A hybrid SSD + HDD RAID controller, 8 lane PCIe Gen2, 6Gb/s per port ... Newegg. And, coming with cables is apparently a bonus == $. So if one were going to make the jump, this one...

Battle of the SATA 3.0 Controllers

The right adapter card looks like it will be a serious investment. Visiting HighPoint Technologies shows they are using the Marvell 88SE9128 ... is that what should be avoided??? It also appears that some of their controllers require a server board or one that can make room for the controller...

Is Focusing on Browser Performance Important?

I am teetering on boosting my download to 101 Mbps. If I do follow thru with that, perhaps there are some tests that could be devised that I could run. In other words I think browser speed is mysteriously governor-edby the ISP download speed. Although your testing doesn't really support that...

Battle of the SATA 3.0 Controllers

I hope that I am not going to come across as being "thick", but do X58 m/bs have an inferior Marvell PCIe interface? If so and sort of related, this would also indicate that any PCIe adapter card on a PCIe 2.0 m/b would also be similarily throtteled.

    Im buying an SSD.,,, Halp!

I am about to make the same plunge for 3 drives in each of 3 machines. I have routine large files that get moved around between the machines. This is why I was asking Rob to make the drive to drive transfer test across a network a few months ago. I will be interested in what you end with Greg

USB 3.0 Could Support 100W Devices In Near-Future

To add a little more information to this thread, in a USB 3.0 compliant cable there are additional power/ground wires for non-data use ... up to AWG 20. I don't know the current rating of that guage in this cable tho, but definitely better than the #32 in the USB 3.0 data pairs.
