Adobe's Creative Suite 4, Flash 10 Both Released

First Photoshop I used was Photoshop Elements 4. Eventually I got my hands on an affordable copy of Photoshop CS3... and to my horror not only was the entire menu system changed, but they even changed, modified, or removed words and menu options to something else in CS3. Almost nothing was left...

    AMD crossfire boards do exist?

Only the motherboard can handle the powerdown/up of GPUs via software I think? I just know the GPU is only fully turned off when switching to the IGP, otherwise it sits at idle even if you use a KVM switch or turn the monitor off. I'm more familiar with NVIDIA's Hybrid SLI which does the same...

Who's planning to upgrade to Nehalem?

Painful?? Shouldn't be, the QuadCore pecking order used to be Q6600, QX6700. And that was it! In effect I got the 2nd best model, was a reason it used to be $800+! Made more sense to wait, and the E6300 was a huge upgrade over my P4 Northwood desktop... not to mention by the time it hit $266...

    AMD's 45nm Opteron's to Launch this Month?

It should work fine on Nehalem. Although you might become memory limited if it spawns 8 threads... hmm. The program has only gotten better and he's ironed out the bugs with it with 1.7v

Five Applications that Don't Suck to Replace Ones that Do

Well, I never had a bad disc, corrupted data, or buffer overuns using Nero... for XP. I loved it, and I was happy that I could elect to only install the base program and avoid the rest of their bundled junk. Nero and Vista on the other hand seem to work as well as oil and water. Not burned...

CPU Cooler Roundup - 22 Models Tackle Our QX6850

Not so according to the graph in the reivew, it's at the top spot even. Yes there are coolers that beat it, but off the top of my head those would be the Thermalright 120 Extreme and Thermalright IFX-140, both of which cost more than $45. Besides that I still find it amazing four cores run...

Intel's X58 Chipset to Cost Less than X48?

Well I lost the bookmark when my array vanished, but just about everyone's X58 board has been covered. Foxconn's, MSI's, the "final" final revision of the DQ6, Intels. MSI was going to have three X58 boards, everything but the price was given. ASUS's P6T or whatever it was, and the Rampage II...

    TSA = They'll Steal Anything?

Hm, so the TSA guy must have worked behind the scenes scanning bags, not at the actual security checkpoint? If he was scanning checked bags then that would mean once the person finds the item missing, they would have at best two airports worth of baggage checkers to blame for potentially...

AMD Splits In Two, Planning New Fab in 2009

Huh, what a ripe mess. The wiki makes sense thogh, it follows what I knew about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE4 As the story goes Penryn was expected to introduce SSE4... at some point Intel made the call to do a 180 and instead released what amounts to an incremental update to SSE3...

Xbox 360 Blu-ray Rumors Heat Back Up

That's a very good point. The execs at Sony calling the shots (I suck at remembering names) that made the decision to bundle Blu-Ray with the PS3 said outright, publicly that they did not know themselves if it would work out. They rolled the dice with that one, and it paid off. Assuming the...

Who's planning to upgrade to Nehalem?

Well, a QX9650 is already a pretty hefty investment. Would be throwing money away to turn right around and upgrade again. I bought an E6300 the same month Conroe debuted, salivating over the Q6600 as I watched it slowly drop from ~$850 down to $266. I don't have the money for a Core i7...

CPU Cooler Roundup - 22 Models Tackle Our QX6850

I gotta disagree. The Tuniq Tower has been around for well over a year, and people still buy it because it performs in the top 5 coolers. In fact, this cooler is well over 3 years old. :) I did find it interesting that a CPU like the QX9650 generates less of a heat load then a similarly...

    AMD crossfire boards do exist?

790GX combines both the better overclocking southbridge and a half-decent IGP. The idea is when your $300 GPU is idle it can be turned off and your IGP runs the system, cutting down on power draw. For users with SLI or Crossfire systems, the power savings would be significant.

    AMD's 45nm Opteron's to Launch this Month?

Let me know if you find anyone using IntelBurn on one of them... ;) Supposedly the program now works for AMD CPUs as well... there is honestly nothing better. What's ironic is the author didn't start out attempting to design one of the best programs for stress testing either....

Intel's X58 Chipset to Cost Less than X48?

Yeah, they have been increasing the prices on the flagship boards with every new launch, and it sucks. But those kinds of prices never seem to phase some people and so people keep buying those boards... as long as people buy them, they will continue to raise prices until they find that sweet...

Five Applications that Don't Suck to Replace Ones that Do

Used CD BurnerXP for awhile, have to say it is free for a reason. I'm playing around with the trial version of Alcohol 120 now, to many issues with Nero and Vista so I'm running out of options. With CD Burner I burned two audio discs to play while commuting (I have an mp3 player +...

Who's planning to upgrade to Nehalem?

I will upgrade... but not primarily because of the performance. I am more interested in the platform now... the ability to have a real nice motherboard that is a pleasure to work on is alluring. Especially when you can run SLI, Crossfire, or 4 GPUs, whatever you can dream up an X58 board will be...

AMD Splits In Two, Planning New Fab in 2009

I am not 100% sure, but the licensing issues should result from AMD using Intel's microcode extensions... SSE, SSE2, SSE3, etc. Just look at a CPUz screenie of Deneb, it uses SSE4a which is what Penryn introduced for the first time. Intel certainly won't give those away for AMD to use for free...

    AMD's 45nm Opteron's to Launch this Month?

I'm sure 4GHz is possible to acheive... 3.4GHz is doable enough now with just a basic Phenom and the right AMD southbridge after all. ;) But overclocking is != launching at 4GHz clockspeeds, like was rumored. Deneb @ 3.0GHz is not very much if all it can offer is a ~20% IPC improvement to go...
