Thecus 2 Bay 2.5" NAS thoughts

Notebook storage is up to 500GB now. 1TB in RAID 0 and 500GB in RAID 1. Not too bad if you ask me. We'll see how it performs in about a month.

Thecus 2 Bay 2.5" NAS thoughts

Forum Folk, Thecus announced the worlds smallest NAS device, using a pair of 2.5" notebook SATA drives. We should have one in for testing by the end of the month, once units become available for review samples. My questions to you all are what are your thoughts on this. I have pondered the...

Seagate Unveils BlackArmor 440 - Great Design, Huge Storage

God no. WHS does not replace RAID and I am actually somewhat disappointing that it doesn't provide that option in setup. What it does do is provide a central location for all of your files, media and anything else that you want to store in digital form. I love it for it's simplicity. If you...

Want to save cash? Carry around $100 bills!

Err... perhaps it may be more the booze than anything. I'm in the same boat. :(

That's what I fear as well.

Want to save cash? Carry around $100 bills!

This seems silly to me but that's just me. I can spend money all day with my debit card (I don't dick with credit, learned my lesson young) because there is no psychological sensation of loss . If I am going out to mindlessly shop, I will go to an ATM and get out what I am willing to spend...

    OCZ Releases Neutrino DIY Netbook

Now this actually makes sence. 110% great idea. OCZ has effectively placed a netbook in supreme impulse purchase price range. I know you have to add your own memory and storage but three purchases of $270, $60 and $60 is a hell of a lot easier to swallow than one large purchase of around...

Seagate Unveils BlackArmor 440 - Great Design, Huge Storage

They aren't cheap, but a good 4 bay NAS is relatively affordable and you can upgrade it with more storage as you go along. Get the NAS and a single 2TB drive (sadly that is still around $800) but then you have a VERY solid expandability path as your data storage needs grow. When fully...

    Gigabyte EX58-UD4P

I liked this board when we met with Gigabyte in January and am still mulling the idea of moving to x58. The affordability of this board might pull me away from DFI. Good read Rob.

10 Operating Systems We'll Never Forget

DOS baby! I too learned a lot about computers on an IBM 286. My dad taught BASIC at the high school that he also taught math at. Good times banging around on that old machine. I miss King's Quest and Quest for Glory. COME BACK ROBERTA WILLIAMS!

Seagate Unveils BlackArmor 440 - Great Design, Huge Storage

I got a press release a few days from our Synology PR rep and they now support the 2TB WD drives. I wish I had the money to get a pair, I could use the extra space. I was sad when I sent back the DS209+ that we looked at last month but my DS207+ is more than enough for me. How are you liking...

Seagate Unveils BlackArmor 440 - Great Design, Huge Storage

This is kind of a needless back and forth because I also think that they totally screwed the pooch with the 1.5TB fiasco. ;) Well God damn, your right. They did drop the warranty to 3 years on everything but the ES line of drives. Sorry for not catching that. I do love some QNAP NAS devices...

Seagate Unveils BlackArmor 440 - Great Design, Huge Storage

Fair point. With this NAS, I would like to think that there was a considerable amount of R&D that has gone into the BlackArmor. An external hard drive is a consumer device but a NAS of this size and price point is clearly aimed at the small to medium business market. This is a FAR less...

Internet Explorer 8 Gets Released - Worth a Go?

I am actually liking IE8 but not enough to sway me away from Firefox. I use Internet Explorer at work because we have to for certain tests. I am a bit disappointed in the slow opening of new tabs and have encountered a few rendering issues but by and large, IE8 isn't bad at all.

Seagate Unveils BlackArmor 440 - Great Design, Huge Storage

Thats total rubbish to sign off on an otherwise stellar company because of a bad line of products. Intel is soaring after their whole netburst fiasco. WD has had their troubles and to think about it, I can't name a single major player that hasn't tripped up once or twice along the way. ATI...

Class Action Against Best Buy's Price-Matching Policy

I worked at the local Best Buy right out of college for all of a month. Best Buy can rot in hell. I don't have any bad stories of experiences, i just hate the fact that everything is so over priced compared to someplace like Newegg. I get my games from Target and my hardware from Newegg or...

Obama administration supports RIAA's ludicrous fines

I see this fight no differently than I do the war on drugs. While many deserve the sentences they get, a vast majority of people in prisons today on drug charges are facing far harsher terms than they deserve. While I don't agree with the MULTIPLE YEARS that a pot dealer gets when sentenced...

Obama administration supports RIAA's ludicrous fines

I should elaborate a little. I am against the heavy handed blows that the RIAA is dealing out all the time so don't take my last post as siding with them at all. I am simply saying that the root cause of all this is illegal activity. This is scare mongering at it's very core and wrong but the...

Obama administration supports RIAA's ludicrous fines

The RIAA is stupid in their heavy handed tactics but you are all missing the point behind this all. Downloading music that you haven't paid for is ILLEGAL. This is a fundamental right/wrong going on here folks. You can bitch all you want but illegal is illegal. There is no shade of gray to...
