It's also nice having a hard backup incase something happens where your collection gets wiped out. Eg, I have NIN's The Slip on our external, but only 2 songs from it on my mp3 player since my HD on my desktop passed away....

If I want a song from one of my favorite bands, I'll buy the album. If it's from a group that's just ok, i'll get just one song online, 'cause i'll probably listen to the song from a fav. band far longer than a band that's just OK

I'm seeing faster results, with files and programs getting added. I can't recall any performance upgrades done as far as OS, etc.
Our family had XM for a year (2007). I liked it - eg, there was a modern rock station called Squizz that had a great variety of alternative and metal songs from the 90s to today - from the big alternative hits to small bands. Better than the local alternative station in Milwaukee. However...

I would probably be only doing RAID just to maximize performance. I can simply backup things the traditional way as I've always done. I think you guys are overcomplicating things here :p
