Thirteen OS X Widgets You Should Be Using

A lot of people criticize Dashboard's inability to display widgets on the desktop (the drag hack doesn't count), but I actually prefer it. Having one button press bring up an entire window filled with applications designed to do one simple thing makes sense, and keeps the desktop clean when...

    Our Handles / Nicknames here

I have no idea really. Just thought of it one day and starting using it for most of my online handles. I thought about using my initials once (mes) or adding another 's' at the end, but I already use a combination of about three different names.

    iPhone thoughts

As the iPhone fire was dwindling, I hear about this. Great job Gizmodo! If you have bad credit and fail the credit check, you can get a "ToGo" plan with the iPhone. They're actually cheaper (for my needs, anyway) than the standard plans, with no early termination fee if you decide to...

We can all relate to that.

That's your prerogative. Steve may have put up some reality distortion fields at the Apple store, so I'll get back to you in a week, if not less.

    iPhone thoughts

God dammit. I told myself I wasn't getting one. I knew it wasn't worth it. And I know, as much as I hate Verizon, Cingular wasn't going to be any better in the long run. What do I think? I'm smitten. Sign me up baby. Truth be told, I tried stopping by an Apple store a while after they opened...

    Staples

The only decent deal I found was an external 400GB drive for $69.99 after rebate. Someone else might have better luck.

    Staples

I'll see if I can stop by my local Staples to take a look. It's been a long time since I've seen a decent deal on anything storage related at a brick and motor. I was able to snag a 250GB hard drive for ~50 a while back at Circuit City. That's the only exception. ;)

Top Utilities For Enhancing OS X

Thanks. Now that I think about it, I forgot to mention Max, ffmpegx, VLC and OpenOffice (since NeoOffice has been super-seeded, though the current version sans X11 is apparently pretty buggy).

Top Utilities For Enhancing OS X

Nice job! TextExpander would have been a nice mention, but I have no complaints regardless. Here's a quick list of general OS X applications I would recommend: Adium - The best instant messenger out there. Honorable mention: Chax, an iChat plugin Chicken of the VNC - Program that lets you...

Circuit City - $40 off $199 or more

You can get $40 off any purchase $199 or more with this coupon. Read the fine print, but it looks like it doesn't have too many exceptions. It'll be nice discount for a Zune (for anyone worried about a new model coming out, I would bet against it for a few months because of the Halo 3 edition...

    Blu-ray or HD-DVD?

To bring this thread back on track, I have to say at first I was a bit of a HD-DVD aficionado. Considering Universal is the only real supporter, I don't see it lasting long. It doesn't really matter to me which format wins. They both serve the same purpose in the end.

    Vista Success! 40-Million Sold!

It's not like Microsoft is using the same group of developers to port Halo 2 over. In actuality, Microsoft used a port-house to finally bring the first Halo to the PC side (Gearbox software). I haven't really stayed up to date with Halo 2 (and let's face it, who can blame me? :p ), but I...

    Archos 704 WiFi Media Player

I wasn't aware of that. I'll see if I can test it, but my original complaint still stands - not having the ability to record seems a little foolish. That's true. Any USB On-The-Go supported device will work, including USB external hard drives. But at that point, I'd rather carry around a...

    Enermax Aurora

The labels on the keys are in fact screened on. I thought about mentioning it as a negative in my review, but I decided against it simply because most keyboards are made that way. I can't really imagine how it would bother anyone though, unless they started to come off. I wasn't able to test...

    digg users are crazy

Keven Rose just made a post on digg's blog. What's interesting is the uproar only took place after the numbers were taken down. I'm a bit disgusted with the MPAA and digg, but at least they actually seem to be listening.

    digg users are crazy

This isn't the first time digg has been caught removing stories from the site. People are up in arms about the codes used to decrypt the newest batch of HD DVD being removed. Stories are being taken down and accounts are (reportedly) being banned. Everyone seems to be pissed off for one reason...
