    Problem With USB

Your iPod works fine, plugging it in directly, I assume. JBL gives absolutely no support for this thing (no surprise there), and the owner's manual is equally useless. First question would be is your computer USB 2.0 or 1.1? It's possible that your iPod works fine by itself, but the JBL...

    Add another 512?

Your motherboard does support dual-channel, but only when two slots are used, like slots 1 and 3, with nothing in slot 2. Adding a third stick of RAM will disable dual-channel mode on that board. The manual says that it will still support dual-channel using all three slots (splitting the...

    OCZ XTC Heatspreader

I would say 10% effectiveness, 90% gimmick. In general, heat spreaders on RAM are only mildly effective. The surface area of the cooler is only slightly larger than the actual chip area, and like OCZ says, allows heat pockets to build up between the chips. The new spreaders take care of the...

    BTX Form Factor

Actually, it's quite a bit more than just being upside-down. One, the processor is toward the middle of the mobo, rather than closer to the top. The proc is also relocated to the front edge of the mobo, closer to the intake fans, rather than toward the rear as on ATX boards. The PCIe...

    XP install problem! Please Help!

SCSI and RAID controllers have to have the drivers loaded during the XP install (press F6 repeatedly when you start the setup), and MUST be loaded from a floppy. The driver CD for his motherboard will have the drivers on it, you just need to copy them to a floppy, and put that in when Windows...

How hot is too hot for an Intel?

That's really hot.......with stock air-cooling, that proc shouldn't get any hotter than 50-55c. By contrast, my 2.8 Northy running at 3.2ghz only hits 42-45c under full load, using a relatively crappy Coolermaster Jet 4 HSF. How's the airflow in the case? And if the fan's that noisy, it...

    BTX Form Factor

Gateway, Dell, and Alienware all have BTX systems on the market. Falcon is toying with one. The mobos just aren't available on the open market yet.

Wow there are so many mobos...

Right now, I'm running a Chaintech 9CJS that I'm really happy with. OC's well, excellent performance, and really stable.

List of Games You Think are Overrated.

Easy list. Halo 2, Doom 3, HL2, the GTA series, any game that relies on TV commercials every 10 minutes to remind you it's being released in a month or two. I've tried WoW, and liked it, as well as Guild Wars. Both have their strong points, but honestly, unless you have a regular...

    AM2 Processors

It's really hard to say at this point. Sure, there'll be a performance gain, but if I were to take Intel's example, the gain between a DDR and DDR2 system, all other things equal, is minimal. What's more important is how fast the interconnect is, and how well the new chipset handles the speed...

SLi - Yes or No on your new rig?

For me, it would depend on the overall system performance at the time. If I were to build a new rig today, it would be SLi, simply because I'd be going AMD for the better performing proc. A year from now, that decision might be Intel/Crossfire. It's all bang for the buck in my book.

    Onboard card died last night.

Warranty that puppy. DFI's usually pretty quick, and I'd be concerned that something else on the board will go as well.

    Onboard card died last night.

Well, since it's onboard sound, he can't exactly pull it out and plug it in somewhere else......... :p What mobo is it? And is it still under warranty? The reason I ask is that if the audio chip has gone bad, it's a pretty good indication that the rest of the board is going to crap out...
