Is a 2880x1800 Resolution Worth Getting Excited Over?

I'll try it out later with Skyrim and a few others if I can. Though I'll run into multi-GPU issues (for some reason, the second GPU is disabled when a game is in Windowed mode).

Is a 2880x1800 Resolution Worth Getting Excited Over?

I have played a number of games that break Aero, either refuse to load in window mode with Aero, or when you tab out, you see the classic interface (Dungeon Siege III is the latest example). Running a game in window mode though does kill performance, but as a result of Aero? I doubt it.

    Video Issues

Another thing is to check the BIOS/EFI and see if it has the video card set as boot priority for display instead of the integrated (it'll be buried in the advanced options somewhere). Another thing to check is power, does the card need external power and is the PSU up to it.

US Reclaims Top Supercomputer Spot with 'Sequoia'

It's IBM, so PowerPC. The exact details are "Power BQC 16C 1.60 GHz" - which is a 16-core Power A2 processor clocked at 1.6GHz instead of 2.3GHz. Some of the technical details about the BlueGene/Q series can be found here. There is more than one BlueGene/Q, the Sequoia just so happens to be the...

U.S. Probes Cable for Limits on Net Video

Try being stuck on an old network where the single incumbent telecoms provider won't upgrade it, then says that running the old network is expensive and jack up the prices. Due to limitations of the network too, bandwidth is at a premium, and as time goes on, more people are using it due to no...

Apple receives yet another broad patent

I've got nothing against Apple attempting to patent this at all... really, I don't. I do have a problem with the morons who authorised the patent... I'm going to go hide in a box now and pretend the world doesn't exist...

    Max Payne 3 Review

I think the poly count problem is the result of the 7 year generational stagnation in consoles. Hence the necessity for tessellation - it allows for 'post-process' type effects on models, so the original model may remain a low poly model for low-end hardware and consoles, but bumped up for...

Verizon to Soon Offer 300Mbit/s Internet Service

For those that want the prices... it's $205/m for the 300Mbps package. http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/2/3059741/verizon-fios-new-pricing-internet-plans For convenience though, the image breakdown...

    raspberry pi anyone?

I think they're going with the larger library and software pool, since these devices are front and foremost meant to teach programming to kids (or will be when the educational release is announced). I procured a pre-compiled Gentoo img from one of the kind peeps over at the RPi forum, albeit a...

    raspberry pi anyone?

So I managed to get VLC working with audio-out on the Debian install, but it's not easy, mainly because the audio driver is still alpha and extremely temperamental. From the command line... apt-get install alsa depmod modprobe snd-bcm2835 While ALSA is already 'technically' installed, it...

    raspberry pi anyone?

So it turns out that the changes I made to get vnc working on boot screwed up something somewhere to the point that I could no longer start X locally, only via VNC, even if I killed the process (of both X and VNC). Then other problems started to creep in and basically, all I had left was an SSH...

    raspberry pi anyone?

Google is my friend... and a lot of reading the RPi Forums. Part of the problem comes from the fact that although the RPi uses Debian Squeeze with an ARM kernel, it still doesn't support everything in the standard ARM Kernel, so certain features are missing, but some can be added if you fancy...

    raspberry pi anyone?

I've been busy experimenting away. Not got anything major working, but I've been working on sorting out the basics (sort of). I have SSH working so I can remote in. I also have VNC working so I can remote GUI in. It's setup with Hexxeh's RPi update utility (due to a difference in Debian squeeze...

    raspberry pi anyone?

It's arrived!! So I ripped open the packaging, giggled a bit, saw the size, then started to take photos.... Yup... It's REALLY small. Anyway, I proceeded to plug things in with a rather large assortment of cables, then balanced it precariously on a glass. The SD card I had ready wasn't...

VIA Announces its Raspberry Pi Competitor, 'APC'

Good test platform for folks to cut their teeth on Android (despite the old version). But it does beg the question of what else can it handle. The RPi has a growing collection of Linux variants ready to go, with people working on android ports too. The extra ram will be a big help though. The...

Corsair Vengeance K90 MMO Keyboard Review

The forums at Corsair are becoming rather energetic with impatience over a software update, since it's been over 4 months now since the beta release. Too be honest, I don't blame them either. I was fully expecting an update by the time this review was released, but nothing. In an unrelated note...

Are you looking forward to Windows 8?

Not to mention that compromised certificates and spoofing can get round this 'security' feature given time. Does come across more as a lockdown than preventative security. The lack of DVD support is nothing new, Windows XP was released without DVD support too and most DVD drives, both retail...

    Mind-boggling comment of the week

Man, these 7-year-old consoles at 720p with no anti-aliasing and 256MB of RAM beats the shit out my 2-year-old, 4core-8thread, 1080p, 16GB RAM, dual GPU calculator... Excuse me while I drown myself in sorrow and play Facebook games for 6 hours because my Personal Calculator can't handle 3D...
