For some reason, I recall that when this was first released, it was free for people who owned the x86 version, but I've never heard much about it after that. That -should- be the case though, since you get both versions with a retail copy of Vista.

But you don't have the ability to install either or, correct? I thought that you simply purchase a license for one or the other and thats how the disk knows which version to install. Perhaps I am mistaken.

You could have both installed at the same time if you wanted as they both share the same serial key. I don't think the Microsoft servers care exactly what version you are using, if the serial key matches your hardware profile from the first activation, you should be fine.

I also heard that since today,the Vista SP1 for x64 is available to download via Windows Update
