This blows me away! The popular Windows emulator, Wine, is almost FIFTEEN years old! Believe it or not... in all those years, there has never been a 1.0 version. Instead, it's always been 0.x.xx, despite it being a rather stable application.

1.0 is upon us though... it will hit on June 6th, the date of the 15th anniversary of the application. It's going to be quite an event. There's very few people who use Linux and haven't touched Wine... so to see it finally hit 1.0 is amazing.

I've not used it yet, but I've heard and read a lot about it, but then again, I'm still a fairly new Linux user (abuser).............;)

Might try http://www.wine-doors.org/wordpress/

PCMech made LinuxMint seem like a great distro, they did half a dozen articles on it, almost got me interested enough to try it. ;) Anyway it uses Wine-Doors, and they were able to play Half Life 2 on the first go with it.

It still can't play Simcity 4 completely....
And it's a 2003 game...

Well, the date of release has little to do with whether or not it will work. It depends on what the game requires and whether or not Wine supports it. I've had a lot of games work and many games not work, but overall I found it to be pretty reliable. Still, it has a LONG way to go, that's for sure, but where it is now is pretty amazing.
