WD Creates 'World's Thinnest' 2.5-inch Mobile Hard Drive

In the hybrid mobile hard drive space, the dominant player has been Seagate - thanks to the fact that it has little competition. In fact, its leading competitor in the desktop and mobile space, WD, has remained quiet on this front. Until now, that is. And what better way to enter the fray than to one-up your competitor at the same time? With WD's claims, that will happen once these drives hit the market.

I guess it cuts down on weight, though I don't know about compatibility, since most laptops/notebooks etc support 9.5mm, I'm wondering about screw mounts, if they'd even fit with a 5.5mm drive. A lot of the SSDs I've seen are 7mm to 9.5mm, and i know the 7mm fit. I don't know, I'm just guessing here.

Anyway, the drive is likely single platter, so 500GB or 640GB is the limit.
