Well probably because it was aimed at the OtherOS Linux setup originally available. Used to be a link in YDL for cell programming. You could program for the Cell's Vector units.

Legitimate PS3 game programming resources come with the dev kit units you have to have. Of course beyond that release signing is done only by Sony. Brewing I am not familiar with on the PS3, I am in the PSP community.

You used to be able to download the SDK here http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/power/index.html. They have done away with it, though.

That sucks. I had some interest around 2007 but I guess I got busy. I eventually updated my PS3 firmware as well.

I found this book on cross-platform coding: http://www.amazon.com/Cross-Platform-Programming-Development-Charles-River/dp/1584503793/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1314428604&sr=8-2. It's pretty detailed, but outdated (2005). It covers Windows, XBox, PS2, and Gamecube. It's still the best I've been able to find.
