A nice review. You did a good job summarizing the market and frusterations of high-level users who can actually tell the difference between a cheap lcd and a quality lcd. It's important to note that manufacturers sometimes go to the extent of hiding the differences. View, for example, a comparison on Dell's webpage of the new E248WFP vs. 2407WFP.

I'd really like to see a comparison review of 2 monitors like the two Dell monitors above that directly compares them in terns of performance and value. It would be good to get a definitive answer as to exactly how they compare.

Dude, you're getting a Sony FW900. I got mine for $140 from a friend of mine who got 4 at once on an Ebay auction for $550. It is arguably the best CRT ever made. I run most of my games at 1920x1200@85hz.

Of course, if you can't easily lift 100lbs, an LCD monitor might be a better idea.

I admit, that screen looks great. I still don't think I could ever go back to a CRT though... they just take up way too much room.

If you can find one of those in good condition and a cheap price, go for it (if you're fine with not having a warranty). I have a GDM-F520 myself, and I loved the picture quality. The only reason why I don't use it now is because of the lack of shielding on my speakers.

The minimum I would pay for a 24" LCD monitor right now would probably be $550. I'm actually eying Gateway's FHD2400 if I don't end up getting the XHD3000.

I just went from a 15" crt to a 22" lcd. Love the big size. It's amazing how well I can snipe now in America's Army. The scope comes up a big as my old monitor was.

Keep those monitor reviews coming. For me, I'm looking for more monitor reviews, especially after my 24" Acer died on me after only a month (if it matters...great monitor, cheap parts that get hot and don't last long). Not much out there; most are out of price range(eg, 27-30"+), or are old reviews.
