Is Nero's latest upgrade worth the cash? We are leaning towards yes. With 8, Nero have shown renewed focus on what it is consumers are most interested in, and as a result, have made the application much easier to use. Read on as we explore all that's new and notable.

You can read Nate's full review right here and discuss it here.

Although Nero seems to be hated by many, I actually have enjoyed using it for quite a while. It's one of the few Windows applications I still enjoy using, simply because it's so complete. I use Nero Recode semi-often and have found the Backup application to be superb in all of my tests in the past ( I use BackItUp to backup/restore the benchmarking partitions for testing ).

Kudos to Nero for a great release. Now if we can only get some SSE4 support on the video encoding.

I had trouble loading Nero on the Vista machine, but Ashampoo works fine and I even think I like it more

That's strange considering Nero modeled the latest version specifically around Vista, though I never tried it there myself.

That's surprising to me, also. I trust that by 'loading', you mean 'installing'? What version of Vista were you using? I tested with XP Pro 64-bit, and Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I had zero problems installing/running anything on those platforms.

I tried the Demo for Nero 8 and it flies like a dream.
The earlier versions are the ones I tried.
I DO like Nero, used it for many years.
Yup, this is working nive in NEro 8.
I just may scrap Ashampoo and buy Nero here soon.

Using Vista Ultimate 32 bit

I have not even heard of Ashampoo I don't think. I am not sure what could replace Nero for me. I even use it in Linux (though it's severely scaled back from the Windows version).
