Mixing ram..of sorts

The other machine, the Q9450 right now has Corsaire XMS2 800mhz ram
2 sticks to have 2 gigs.
Corsaire also has XMS2 ( 2 ) 2 gig sticks at 800 mhz
What I wondering if you could still use the 2 sticks of 1 gig ram.
All have the same timings 4.4.4.4 12 and same speed.
Would be a combined total of 6 gigs in 4 sticks
What ya think in a 64 bit system ?
That machine is for graphics ( 3D programs and photoshop )
This one is for gaming

As long as the voltages match, and both use dual-sided memory chips then you should have no issues.

Otherwise make sure to set the voltage to the higher RAM setting if the voltages don't match.

It's an odd combination, but like Kougar said, it should work no problem. Make sure you force 2T command rate though.

Oh Yeah, She works great.....I did try to set the timings in Bios...but it didn't like it...so it's just on auto...
It's the first time I have had over 2 gigs.......
I'll try and tweak it some more

5-6-6-19? That's a really nasty performance hit you just took for that RAM if those readings are correct... Of course it says you are running it at DDR2-840MHz, did you try without the RAM being overclocked?

Did you make sure both RAM kits use double-sided chips?

In the Blue ( 1 and 3 ) slot I have the 2 gig chips

And the black slots ( 2 and 4 )
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145033

I see now what it is....
(2) 1 gig chips are 5-5-5-15
(2) 2 gig chips are 5-5-5-18

My Mistake.....I thought they were the same timings
Maybe set both to 5-5-5-18

Okay....took out the OC and set timings...seems okay since one set was 5-5-5-15 and the other set was 5-5-5-18
I set them all as 5-5-5-18 @800 Mhz
Seems to be okay
I'm also using the Thermaltake cyclo ram cooler since they are close together
