The PC version of the original Lost Planet brought gamers DirectX 10 support, and to follow in its footsteps, Lost Planet 2 will support DirectX 11. Though the game's release date hasn't been announced, Capcom has released a benchmark that allows us to test out both modes, so that's just what we did.

You can read our full look at the Lost Planet 2 benchmark and then discuss the article here!

i just bought a HD5000! damn! :D
Hey now, nothing wrong with the 5000 series. Technology is a vicious cycle. I'm just glad I was able to own current technology for a few months. That's something I have never done until now. :D

I am so lame. I kept looking at the DX9/DX11 and thinking, "Wow...I see absolutely no reason to upgrade." I've seen more difference between 9.0a and 9.0c than I do between 9c and 11. :(

I guess this is why Rob does the games. ;)

Visuals not worth loss of speed

Does anyone really think that the slight increase (I saw very little myself) in the visual quality is worth giving up 30-40 fps? I personally wouldn't mind it if DX9 mode became a permanent feature in all future games with that sort of speed increase. That's the sort of speed increase you normally get when upgrading from a graphics card 2 or 3 generations behind to a brand new one.

Hmm, that's not as large a difference as one would expect. Lots of subtle improvements, better depth and much much sharper water for example, but still it seems like diminishing returns are setting in. Graphics are improving in smaller increments while still taking large performance hits. I really wonder how DX12 will shape up given how incremental DX10 and DX11 have become? PC gaming needs another Crysis. :D
