Intel Releases 'Light Peak' as 'Thunderbolt'; Offers 10Gbps Speeds

Intel, in conjunction with Apple's MacBook Pro refresh, today announced its "Thunderbolt Technology", formally known as "Light Peak". This connector, based around the PCI Express bus, enables a 10Gbps bi-directional connection to devices plugged in, and thanks to the fact that devices can be daisy-chained (up to six), one Thunderbolt connector can offer a lot of expandability.

I do kind of wish Intel chose a different name for this tech... just take a look at how many things have been called Thunderbolt. After Intel announced this, I saw commercials or Web mentioned of two completely non-related products also called Thunderbolt... it's kind of nuts.
