How to clean LCD monitors?

Well, I now am up to three LCD displays, and I am not even sure about the proper way to clean them. What are the proper steps to take?

I used to just use a soft towel and some glass cleaner. It worked awesome, except after some time, there would be streaking on the display.

At any rate, what's the proper method?

Doing a little searching I found someone who's done all the work beforehand. He's contacted multiple makers for information about their lcd monitors and the best way to clean them. Interestingly enough each manufacturer has a different way their monitors are to be cleaned.

Schweet, thanks man! I have an NEC comp monitor, and it sounds like something simple to me. Will give that a shot next time it needs a cleanin'.

I use a small mixture of half-water, half-isopropyl alcohol which seems to do the job well.

The trick is that you have to use as soft a cloth as possible. IMO even things like paper towels can be too abrasive.

I'd stay away from ammonia ( windex) or alcohol based cleaners.
Both can damage the soft outer plastic layer of your LCD
a very mild soap solution, soft cloth, rinse and repeat as needed.
