CD Rom + Zip Problem!

Hello Everyone,

My father won an old computer Tower in a raffle for the place that he works

It is a pentium 3 1ghz processor 512mb ram windows XP Pro SP2. Now it came

with 1 cdrom drive, 1 floppy drive and 1 Hard drive 20 gig. Now we had an

internal zip drive lying around so I put it in the slot above the cd rom hooked

it up and piggybacked it with the Cdrom. now the zip drive worked but the

cdrom drive did not show up and it had worked previously. when I go to bios

settings, my computer or explorer it only shows 3 devices the zip,the flop, and

the HD. How do I get it to reconize all 4 devices. I should be able to hook up

all four right? There are only 3 Cable slots on the Motherboard so I thought

piggy backing would work????? If anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them thanks!

This is likely a Master/Slave issue. If the Zip drive and CD-Rom are on the same cable, make sure that the jumper on one is for Master, and the jumper on the other is for Slave.

Wow I totally forgot about the jumpers the zip drive didn't even have a jumper luckly I had a spare. Thank you for fixing my problem who would have thought something so little could be so big. Thanks again for the help it was a big time saver.

There's so many times I've done the same thing, or even forgot to plug in a power cord :D lol. Glad to hear you've fixed the problem!

Yep, been there, done that. Sometimes the seemingly most complex of problems can have the most simple of solutions... :p at least it'll give you a laugh later down the road :)
