    Water Cooling Guides

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm going to do some more testing to determine where the noise is coming from when encoding just to be sure its the CPU fan. Overall the rig is pretty quiet when idle, not as quiet as I would like however, but I'll work on that. My main issue is that when under load...

Canonical to Cease Support for Kubuntu

Kubuntu is a joke. It's clear Canonical does not and have cared not for a long time. I tried to get Kubuntu 11.10 running awhile back and ran into this bug. Basically, if you install and then try to update the system using Muon, the KDE equivalent of Synaptic, the update will fail and render...

    Water Cooling Guides

Hi all, I'm looking into water cooling for my rig and I'm wondering what the general consensus is and if you guys know of any good guides about all the parts and configuration. The main reason I'm considering it is when I encode videos, my CPU fan spins up and is loud and makes a whining...

Rosewill External HD Enclosure, aka "deathbox"

Hmm interesting. What I'm really looking for is just a cheap enclosure that has USB 2.0 so I can hook it up to my router to serve torrents. I suppose a NAS would be better, heck a small form factor machine running Linux would be ideal and get the job done, but I don't know of any cheap enough...

    Samsung ES-TOOL

Rob got it! I tested in my older rig, the Frankenbuild, pieced together with all kinds of junk and all tests passed. So I'm guessing its just a compatibility issue with the software and the new Intel chipset I was using to test the drives with. Whew! Thanks all!

    Samsung ES-TOOL

We'll I've ran all 4 drives and all 4 returned the same AJ41 error. One of those disks was manufactured in April of 2011. I also ran a full surface scan on one of the disks and no error was returned. At this point I'm thinking that the software is at fault and not the drives.

    Samsung ES-TOOL

Anyone here have any experience with the Samsung ES-TOOL? As I mentioned in another thread, I had a Samsung drive die, so I figured I would fire this up and test all my drives. So far, I'm 2/2 with getting errors when running the "Drive Diagnostic" test. The error is: AJ41 - Ram Error but...

Rosewill External HD Enclosure, aka "deathbox"

Well Newegg wants $6.00 for a restocking fee. Additionally, their shipping label generator will only cost $13.95. I paid $20 each for 2 of these, so IF I go through with this I'll only get back $20... I guess it's time to ONLY buy from Amazon.

Rosewill External HD Enclosure, aka "deathbox"

"48 hours" So I ordered this Rosewill External SATA to USB Enclosure last week because I wanted to hook up a drive to my router (RT-N16) running DD-WRT. I can use this drive as a little network share and not have to keep my desktop PC on all the time in order to access files. So I use less...

HELP!! High Pitch Noise Coming from System

Thanks all. The PSU was made before 2008 and back then it only had a 3 year warranty, so I had to buy a new one. Will be here next week. Hopefully this is the end of the issues.

HELP!! High Pitch Noise Coming from System

UPDATE: I've removed all components from the case and hooked up on the table. Using a cardboard sheet I separated the components and listened in on each to determine if the noise was coming from it. After several minutes, I've concluded that the component making the high pitch whine is indeed...

HELP!! High Pitch Noise Coming from System

I have a speaker hooked up, but that connector uses the Asus Q-Connector to hook all the leads into the mobo through one connector. I did remove the front panel audio hookup and that mode no difference. I think tonight I will remove the entire motherboard tray and try running it outside of the...

HELP!! High Pitch Noise Coming from System

UPDATE: I hot wired the PSU and let it run for about 20 minutes and it made no noise at all. I also ran LinX and as soon I started running the benchmark, the noise stopped, so I'm thinking that it is probably the motherboard at this point unless anyone has any objections. What do you think...

HELP!! High Pitch Noise Coming from System

Hi all, I've removed the GPU and am now using the CPU video and the noise still occurs. All previous conditions are the same with the GPU now removed. Tomorrow I will buy a paperclip and remove the PSU from the system and hotwire it and test it independently. Ciao

HELP!! High Pitch Noise Coming from System

Thanks, I'll give this a shot. 1.) The CPU is not, the GPU has a factory overclock I believe. 2.) Have not tried this yet, I'll give it a shot. 3.) Will try this as well tomorrow. The GPU is brand new, as is everything else sans the PSU. I will switch to the onboard graphics and...

HELP!! High Pitch Noise Coming from System

Hi all, I've recently built a new system and out of the blue the last few weeks it developed this high pitch whining sound. It appears to be coming from the PSU, but I can't narrow it down 100%. Here are my specs: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z68 Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz...

I've found that simply installing Firefox is good enough to get around just about anything. Unless you browse some really odd sites, I've always felt perfectly safe with vanilla Firefox.
