Please Recommend a MoBo for Intel Q6600!

Of course, it's no problem. Glad to have you around here. Don't hesitate to come back with any questions, or just to join in the active conversation ;-)

    Razer Mako

That's still about eight months longer than I think most people expected to have to wait ;-)

    Can drives lose power-on hours?

The drive in question isn't on the server, though? As for Linux, I am not sure what the deal is. The drive in the laptop is just fine, so I am not entirely blaming Linux for anything, but it seems odd for a drive that should have thousands of hours accrued to only have under 2K. It would be...

Please Recommend a MoBo for Intel Q6600!

Matt's posts chew up about 100W. (no clue what that is supposed to mean. take it for what you will)

    Razer Mako

Hmm, nice find. £177 equates to around $370USD, so it's good to finally know a possible price. I assume it will be a little lower in the US, so $349USD sounds reasonable. Too bad that site doesn't have any in stock yet... will be worth keeping an eye on. Welcome to the forums :-)

    HP Scanjet 4890 Scanner

From a scan, it wouldn't be the glass since it's not scanning the glass, so it might be the scanner part itself. I am not familiar with scanners at all, but I'd take a look around the inside and make sure everything looks clean. As for submitting a photo for example, only members who are...

Please Recommend a MoBo for Intel Q6600!

You think you need a large PSU because that's what the PSU companies want you to think. Realistically, 550W will prove more than enough. For a test, I threw in the QX6850 (3.0GHz Quad-Core) and maxed out it's usage while running a full 3D Mark 06 test at 2560x1600. Not once did the total system...

Please Recommend a MoBo for Intel Q6600!

The upgraded 8800GTS also includes a better memory bus (320-bit vs. 256-bit). Whether or not this makes a huge difference, I am unsure. I'd like to get one of each in the lab though and give it a test. I am curious. As for SLI vs. Single, at 1680x1050 you have little to worry about. A single...

    Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW Wide-Screen

Hi man, No I don't think your eyes will bleed when using this :P If you plan on gaming for -many- hours, then a larger 24" Dell (which would be slightly easier on the eyes) might be worth the move.

Will Phenom work on my AM2 Mobo??

    Traitor!

    Can drives lose power-on hours?

Hurrah for cacti, hah. Glad I am not the only one who saw this happen, especially with a completely different hard-drive. Is this a server you are running? Perhaps it's just Linux screwing with our drives. Although, my laptop has been running Linux for over two years and I don't see that problem...

Please Recommend a MoBo for Intel Q6600!

680i is just behind the times because it's older, but NVIDIA should be releasing their newer chipsets before the end of the year (could be next week, I don't know), so if you want to wait a little bit, you might be able to get a new board that still supports SLI. For non-SLI boards, I've...

Will Phenom work on my AM2 Mobo??

If you don't run applications that will use all four cores (such as video encoding, multi-media rendering, 3D model rendering, etc) then upgrading to a Quad-Core is not a necessity. Do you find your current CPU to be a bottleneck in anything you are doing right now? If not, then there is...

Will Phenom work on my AM2 Mobo??

Depends on what you want, really. Do you, or do you not want a Quad-Core? If you don't need/want a QC, then there is no real sense of upgrading at all. If you do want a Quad-Core, then by all means pick up a Phenom if it's supported in your motherboard. I really wouldn't bother upgrading to a...

Please Recommend a MoBo for Intel Q6600!

Hi BoySCouT and welcome to the forums :-) It's quite a challenge you have ahead of yourself. Preparing a computer for a three-year lifespan is difficult unless you really don't mind feeling really outdated after two of those years. Luckily, the Quad-Core should treat you well during that time...

Kingston 8GB DataTraveler II+ Migo Edition

Thumb drives are a dime a dozen, so to help sell their 8GB DataTraveler II+, Kingston added a little software tool from the folks at Migo. Their software enables the user to carry their desktop to another computer and then back again. But, is this special functionality worth the premium? You...

    OCing my Q6600

Increase the voltage a tad and see if that helps. Don't keep all voltages at auto... learn how high the voltages should be. I wouldn't go much higher than 1.4250v on air, but you might want to just to see how far the temps rise. You might also want to increase the northbridge voltage, because...

    AMD Unveils Phenom Processors

The Q9450 will be hard to beat, especially once SSE4 becomes more popular for video encoding. Of course, that would assume that someone who purchases it does video encoding.

    Looking for cooling suggestions...

Thanks, I will consider that. I might pick up more than one of those fans, since I found the one in the Antec to be a little shoddy. At least the one in the bottom of the case (beside the PSU). It never starts up when I turn on the machine... I need to flick it with a finger to get it going.
