    New video card recommendations?

hahaha I'm not very far off - 21" here...and no interest in upgrading, as it's an 8-bit Samsung T-series.

NVIDIA's Kepler-based GPUs Rumored to Feature Dynamic Overclocking

So, as Kay mentions, it's underclocking the chip as its baseline, then ramping up the juice where/when it needs it. If indeed it can also DROP power when a game does not need all those horses in there, I think that would be marvelous. I'd love for a gpu that can sip power when not in use or...

    I loved Blake Stone!

Are you ready to Take Earth Back!

Wow, Marfig! I'll start this off with a statement that may stop anyone from reading the rest of my opinion: I have not played, nor do I care to play Mass Effect - 1, 2, or 3. But I have read a lot of the story and the game choices, as well as the critiques by both players and reviewers...

    Music money makers 2012

Interesting... I never really knew that, and looking at some of the recent tours, I see you're right on the money with that summary, Corsico! Thanks for sharing.

Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition This Year; Baldur's Gate 3 Around the Corner

NWN2 was, quite frankly, garbage in comparison to the original...which I played until my disk wore out the first time, and then I had to buy the platinum or diamond or whatever edition. When the mac version came out, I even did all the arcane trickery needed to install the expansions on it...

    Music money makers 2012

Wow, there is a LOT of country on that list. I'm quite surprised...I'm also really surprised at the lack of hip-hop and rap on there!

    Display is not coming

Yeah, GPU would be the likely culprit. The fan on the card will run regardless of whether everything else on the card runs, as long as there's power going to it. So if the fan got stuck and the card overheated, the chip or the RAM could have gone bad but the power would still run to the fan...

    The Joys of Purchasing Content

It's a shame that it's so true, but really... The real downside to it is that it's not the content MAKERS that are forcing this. It's the content PUBLISHERS consistently trying to force the old ways of doing things, mostly to continue to validate their own existence in a new world where...

An Introduction to FreeNAS - The Do-It-Yourself NAS OS

Keep in mind that at least for MY setup, it's been running for like 5 years STRAIGHT (except for being shut down for maintenance)...and usually on already-old gaming hardware that is not designed for that level of stability. ;)

OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid PCIe Hybrid SSD Review

First, RAID0 on SSDs just seems like a heart attack for me. I can see the blue-screen already...I'm sure it's not half as risky as I imagine it, but yeesh... I like the concept of the caching drive "package" - I think this is a slick idea. I have a 128GB SSD as my primary on my Win7 desktop...

A Quick Look at Windows 8 Consumer Preview

I'm quite a fan of the new styling, but partially simply because it's NEW. We were talking about this the other day on IRC, actually, and I think that Marfig and I - though having similar goals - are oddly disparate on this. I have wanted a reason to like Windows again ever since Windows...

An Introduction to FreeNAS - The Do-It-Yourself NAS OS

I'll agree here...it depends on your board and your system. Goodness knows, my current home server does NOT sip at the power straw. However, you can get a lot out of one of these setups if you know what to keep and what to shut off in your BIOS as a lot of things become unnecessary (for...

Storing a Terabyte of data on Abacus's i mean Abacii....

That's just awesome. I want to store a TB on Abacii... But I don't think I could afford it looking at the costs. :( At the very least, someone has an awesome sense of humor!

    New video card recommendations?

The main benefit to the 2GB on board is mostly larger textures and a bit for AA (though throughput matters more for that) - playing at 1440x will not really require all of that, I don't *think*. To give you an idea, I run a GTX560 w/1GB of RAM on a 22" monitor (1650x resolution) and am able to...

An Introduction to FreeNAS - The Do-It-Yourself NAS OS

I would just like to say that Glider's Synology took a crap and lost all his stuff...and once it fails, it fails. However, my cheap-ass linux home server has had random hardware failures including (but not limited to): Two motherboard burnouts, two hard drive failures, a CPU finally falling...

Terraria Evil Dimension Feature: Developer Quits

This is the problem with being a small business that gets too successful, too quickly: everyone expects the service of the big guys. Terraria was what, $9.95? And I'm willing to bet that every single person who purchased and played it probably put in a LOT more time than games that cost 5x...

    iWatchz!

I will say that for what the nano is, it's awesome - my father absolutely loves his. You can say what you will about the overpriced overseer that is Apple (we all know Rob's deep-seated hatred for the brand), but as far as ease-of-use and a "system," nothing else comes close. The nano is...

Whoops.... Google just made another boo boo, or did it?

*snicker* ;) Ah marfig, there you go inserting facts into conversations again. Do definitions really matter? ;) On topic, I, too, am curious to see whether or not Firefox was also subjected to this. For Google to say that it's an archaic standard is one thing - and the company actually points...
