Has Blizzard sold its soul to the Devil Diablo!!

< pulls out the "troll-free" fire extinguisher > I just figured I'd say that though I don't really like Blizzard's decision, I'm bothered more by the "This isn't DRM!" concept. I can completely understand why the company wouldn't want to label it as such...but really? It's a shame that...

    Striping RAID 0 problem...

Hi Alan! Rob would know the specifics on the Highpoint drive better than I would, but I do run a RAID5 setup with three Seagate 2TB drives. I can say that it does take a while, but if it's still striping after 24 hours then I would be very concerned. For a reference, RAID5 using MDADM...

+1. Marfig, kudos to a great post.

Disabling NVIDIA's HDMI Audio Under Linux

OMG thank u thank u without this knowlidg i wuld still be using my crappy OS. </sarcasm> Seriously. You bash OSS and GPL as "commie", you say Unix is a piece of crap TWO POSTS UP from this last one. You talk about how all it is is an antiquated throwback to big iron and how any POSIX-based...

Disabling NVIDIA's HDMI Audio Under Linux

In short, Yes. I would have no problems paying for 'nix. I don't care that it's free (nice plus, but I pay for other software, including OSes, happily where I need to). I like it because it brings back some of the best things I liked about computing in the days of DOS with the modern...

Disabling NVIDIA's HDMI Audio Under Linux

It's interesting that with your level of knowledge on the OS (having hand-built distros and using a lot of other buzz-words) that you'd not know WHY Linux automatically enables the wrong system, so allow me to add that to Rob's wonderful reply before I throw my own $0.02 in the ring. *EDIT...

    1,200W

I didn't even think of the monitor...Rob does use a 30" monitor, which is NOT on that Kill-A-Watt... haha, congratulations, Rob! You've probably used more power in one test than your entire apartment building combined! :)

    1,200W

Thanks for the technical reply, George! I knew something was a little wonky with the earlier maths because PSUs get more efficient under high load than they do at low loads (part of why people shouldn't put a 1000w PSU in a 200w system)...but it's great to see the actual efficiency graph...

    The good ole days?

Ah, Deus Ex - one of my all-time favorite games. And then Deus Ex: Invisible War, which was even more of a let-down than Thief 3. Thank you X-Box, middleware, and SCi. May you all burn. :P Seriously, no anger here...nope...nor bitter resentment. Nor anxious worry over DXIII....I guess...

Sony Vita vs. Nintendo Wii U: Which is More Impressive?

I'm going to beg to differ (You'll see why either later today or Friday) - I think Nintendo's actual support for the Wii (and especially third-party) support sucked donkey balls. :( It makes me very worried for the Wii U, particularly for capturing the market it is really designed for.

    FyreTV BoXXX Adult Media Streamer

I still LOVE this idea...it does one thing, it does it well. Like most things, leave it to Porn to actually get it right and hopefully drive the market forward. Hey, it worked for HD... ;)

    AC Ryan Playon!HD Media Player

I do think it's a good BASE. AC Ryan is releasing a HUGE firmware and GUI redesign in December, so I'll probably even write up a bit of a 1-pager on the improvements. I'm looking forward to that, as this has a LOT of potential. As it stands now, though, caveat emptor - I much prefer an...

Windows 7 Libraries and Network Folders

You know, you would THINK that after years of Linux and NFS making running a network so easy, that Microsoft MIGHT just figure out how to get its act in order for it. We use win 7 in the office now, and I do love it as a business OS...but the way it handles network folders always has...

Five Web Browsers: Which is the Fastest?

Gotta say, I'm a Chrome user myself. I could never quite get used to Opera, I'm not sure why. I like Firefox, too, but I've just become very used to the way that Chrome "feels" for lack of a better word. I also really appreciate the low memory footprint, which is one thing our tests DON'T cover.

    Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 - A Photographer's Review

I'm glad to do it - workflow is one of these things that is often overlooked as part of photography, and it's VERY important to manage in order to keep yourself doing what you love in the hobby. Whether it's the post process or shooting, very few people go "I can't wait to organize and sort and...

    Lost Planet 2: DX9 vs. DX11

I am so lame. I kept looking at the DX9/DX11 and thinking, "Wow...I see absolutely no reason to upgrade." I've seen more difference between 9.0a and 9.0c than I do between 9c and 11. :( I guess this is why Rob does the games. ;)

Need the Most Unsecure Linux Ever? Just Get Damn Vulnerable Linux!

I love this! :) It really is quite useful, because when you're trying to learn the basics of exploitation in a continually adapting world, it's very hard - right when you learn how something works, they close the loops. It makes it VERY hard to train your skills, which all fall back onto the...

    Thoughts on this HTPC build.

Ah, I'm a little late to the party here. killem2, you'll actually LOVE that gigabyte board from what I hear. This is actually a really good setup and is quite similar to the one I've built for the Techgage "beefy" HTPC, which is designed to allow a bit of gaming along with the HTPC functions...
