    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I did see in the BIOS that a PCIe slot is populated, but nothing was there mentioning a PCI slot being populated. Thanks for the responces, I will have to return the card back to Amazon. I bought the card because I am starting to get fed up of the IDT drivers corrupting/refusing to work when...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I've tried everything I can think of, I was reccomended by Creative labs to try another PCI slot - the problem with the D-5400XS motherboard is that it only has 2 PCI slots and the graphics card is overlapping one of them (thanks for helping out) I have trawled through the net and have come...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

Absolutly nothing, I am unsure I understand why - when I failed to insert the card, I put it back in the anti-static packaging - I doubt the motherboards PCI slot is damaged otherwise I suspect I would have recived error messages - I wonder if Windows XP support PCI 2.3 because of the system...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I managed to fit the soundcard in and it doesn't work, although looking at the website, it said "Available PCI 2.1 compliant slot (PCI 2.2 and 2.3 also supported)" only under Wondows Vista - I use Windows XP (I have made sure the card is in, will provide futher updates as I trawl through the...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

Over a year in my Skulltrail system has been fantastic (apart from the IDT audio system which the drivers seem to die sometimes when windows XP boots up) I decided to purchase a PCI sound card (Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeGamer), to my horror, it doesn't fit my PCI slot, it seems as if...

    Intel's "Skulltrail 2" to Feature 16 Cores?

I don't think it will cut down the heat at all, I think it may increase the overall temps on the board itself unless you move the moard from the side to the middle and that will provide problems with fitting of standard PC cards

    Intel's "Skulltrail 2" to Feature 16 Cores?

Intel will not make a "Skulltrail 2" but as I recall, Intel stated that there is nothing stopping other companies from doing so... I myself am happy with my current Skulltrail rig and I think it will last a good 6 years atleast

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

My problem has been solved now, I found out the small fan I got for the heatsink (thats ontop of the MCH) has died, what I did is I cut a hole in the side of the case (as some would probibly know, it is an old generic ATX case that has been modifiied to accept eATX mobos) and put a 90mm fan that...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I have not overclocked mine yet - at the moment, the weather is very hot here in Britain (Oddly I am living in the most rainy place in Britain, which is Wales BTW) and my CPU's are having temps of 45-48C, ususally they are around the 39-44C mark when the weather is cooler. At the moment, I am...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I got one metal backplate from Thermalright called Bolt Thrus (said to fit only Thermalright heatsinks, but it fitted my Akasa HSF), I don't think it crushed anything, I have had no trouble yet apart from the rare occasion that when the computer gets switched on, the screen remains black, fans...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I got backplates for my CPU fan, which CPU was the capacitors? 0 or 1? The backplate on my mobo is on CPU0 and I have had no problem whatsoever, I am a bit concerned on getting a HSF cbackplate to replace those cheap and dirty pushpins on CPU1 and what did you do to get around your problem with...

I thought Xeons generally had larger cache than desktops and (with the more recent Xeons) multiprocessing capabilities (I may be wrong), must do some reseach into this...

DVD thinks certain populated disks are blank

Sorry for the lack of my reply - I just uninstalled my DVD-RAM drive and rebooted Windows, it is working a bit better, but I used my mothers DVD/CD lens cleaner (a CD with fibers on it) and it did make some difference, the DVD-RW seems to be reading now (with a hickup now and again) Thanks...

DVD thinks certain populated disks are blank

There was no software drivers included with the DVD-RAM drive (I'm assuming you mean software drivers), but I haven't updated its firmware, I, also I have looked at the procedures of updating the DVD-RAM firmware that came with the Zip file and it does confuse me a bit (It is copied and pasted...

DVD thinks certain populated disks are blank

I have a small problem at the moment, for some reason, my DVD-RAM drive (NEC ND-4571A) thinks that some populated disks (backups of my mothers digital photos from my old system) are blank. A good few weeks back, I used the same DVD-RAM drive read them no problem at all, and a few days back, I...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I'm sure it can fit your Zaleman cooling systems too, my heatsink is not a Thermalright but a Akasa AK-965. It may say on websites that the Thermalright Bolt-Thru kit is for Thermalright heatsinks only, but the truth is it fits any, buy two, fit it to your skulltrail and see the difference :)...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I have managed to solve my heat problem by ripping off my heatsinks pushpins and replace them with a Thermalright LGA-775 Bolt-Thru kit, and it has made one huge difference, my CPU is now running at 45-47C at full load and 39C idle. I would sincearly reccomend the Thermalright Bolt-Thru for...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

I have another question in hand. My Xeon E5430 run at 50-50 degrees C, what tempratures does everyone else run at? Reason I'm asking is because my heatsinks was a real pain to put in (cursed LGA-775 type heatsinks and their pushpins) and I only managed to get 3 of them in propperly Cheers
