I don't know from experience how well they overclock, but it is so far Core 2's inferior that unless one can be had for next to nothing, I wouldn't bother with it. It's a CPU, thats about it.

I am sure that is Intel's reasoning too. There is speculation that Intel is worried about K10 and thats what is prompting the price drop but I really don't buy that. Just one more example of Intel flexing their industry muscle.

Define cheap. The absolute best overclocking performance can be found on the nvidia 680i chipset but if your looking for the max FSB (if you have a CPU with a lower multiplier) the P965 Intel chipset is your best bet.

I have every bit of confidence in AMD right now. Buying ATI was a very smart move but terrible timing. They are going to have to survive by doing what they have mastered over the years which is undercutting Intel in the price/performance wars.
