Couldnt have said it better. There are some arguments quoting the production cost exceeding the initial price though. The production cost of course will be going down, but the price? I'm not sure why or how sony would do this, but looking at some price breakdowns it is very plausible...

unfortunatly i think the zip has been overshadowed by the usb storage devices. The money to be made is significanly better there, so zip could fade out faster than Pogs.

I cannot vote on this issue... I have a floppy drive on my old rig that I could rip out if I ever needed it, but the last time i needed it was about a year ago.
