    Apple Patents Forced Advertising

If I was trying to use the device and had to stop whatever I was in the middle of doing to view or watch an ad, I'd get pissed fast. I could just imagine googling some question and having to sit to view an ad before getting to view the answer... even worse if I was in a time sensitive situation...

    Killing people for their fat?!

You posted this right after Thanksgiving? Yuck... shouldn't surprise anyone the lengths a gang will go to in order to make money though, even something as absurd as this. Congrats on losing that weight Doomsday! Keep at it! :)

The Quest for Useful Real-World SSD Benchmarks

That's fine to disagree, just be warned I stick to my guns! Which part exactly are you referring to here, so I can follow you better? If you're referring to that responsiveness I was talking about, that is inherent to how flash memory works. Hard drives have a access latency of around 9-14ms...

    Linux Mint 8 Released

Ah, I see. I can understand that, given many of the codecs were not eligible to be included in the GNU license, etc. Still this was how I found out about and tried Linux Mint, because I just wanted something that worked. Trying to install the libraries and recompile a driver to use them just to...

    Apple Releases iTunes LP SDK

Yep. Apple is tarnishing their shiny white image just a bit as of late. I was surprised when they actively defended AT&T from Verizon's "There's a map for that" ads... AT&T being a company that filed a lawsuit overnight over the ad based upon the only thing that stood a chance of holding water...

    Gigabyte P55A-UD4P

Rob, and any others that want to know more about this socket issue... here's where it started, even before Raju made that Anandtech article: http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/showthread.php?t=234723 To be honest this made me extremely happy I did not wait for P55.... I have no doubt that I...

    Cooler Master Cosmos S

I gotta honestly disagree about the block compatibility... older or less popular sockets may need to grab an extra mounting kit, but that's still cheaper than a new block or cooler. While it's now an outdated model, Swiftech's Apogee GT block will fit any socket made within the last 5 years...

    ASUS' P55 Boards Don't Degrade PCI-E Performance for S-ATA/USB 3.0

I never did like all the unit conversions as I frequently miss one when converting things around... but ASUS's method also has it's drawbacks. ASUS's version uses four first-gen PCIe lanes to feed the PLX chip... but the PLX chip can only send a single PCIe 2.0 lane to the controller. This means...

Smoking Around Apple Computers May Void Warranty

Well, not much Apple can do if the employee refuses to work on the machine because it's an OSHA violation. OSHA was implemented to protect employees and give them rights, after all. If the machine has enough tar/crud built up in it that an employee can easily tell it belonged to a smoker...

    Apple Releases iTunes LP SDK

Yeah, but they have other ways of making/saving millions depending on the point of view: http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/11/apple-using-dodgy-tactics-to-get-better-nand-flash-prices.ars

What if Coca Cola Cans Lost their Color?

It looks interesting, I'd give it that. Coke's brand image is about the color as much as the name though, so I'd be extremely surprised if they decided to give this a try... I bet they could save a hefty bit on production costs though.

    Linux Mint 8 Released

So are you saying they removed the built in codecs and media support? That seemed like the entire reason behind Linux Mint, having that stuff all ready to go after the initial install...

The Quest for Useful Real-World SSD Benchmarks

I apologize for the late reply, I've been letting this get away from me as I'm graduating in just a few weeks and things have been slightly hectic! The issue at hand is trying to "quantify" that responsiveness an SSD will give. Everything loads just a bit faster and stays responsive...

Yes, but some readers will only see the "Arctic Silver" part and not the rest, so it's worth mentioning.

Are You Upgrading to Windows 7?

Windows 7 does load a generic driver if it can't identify the GPU or can't download a driver, which makes it extremely unusual that the installer quit working on you. I run a GTX 260 and have never had a single issue installing Windows 7 beta, RC, or RTM builds using it, without needing any...

    Atheros wireless under Ubuntu...

Well, that's generally the deal with Windows. Can't/won't spend the time to make it work under linux, or just don't want to.... Ubuntu 9.04 was the current version, but if he waited a few days more the next major upgrade 9.10 is about to launch. Edit: Apparently it has already launched. :)...

    water cooling

Well I'm all for creative engineering that works! But really... 1/2 of a single degree? It's not worth the cost in silicone to me, let alone the risk of me ruining my own block or the water pump. But, it is always interesting to see how designs can be further improved... it depends on the user...

    TIM ...

Haha, I was looking for that link! :D As you touched on yourself though, most items wouldn't retain their thermal conductivity over time... otherwise the best results would be obtained by using pure water as a TIM! One could point out he used AS3 rather than AS5, or that he didn't allow...

    AMD Athlon II X4 620 - Quad-Core at $99

Thanks for the comment MDS! I can't speak for Rob, but I can chime in here. The problem is the 805 and 810 cost double the price of the Phenom II X4 620, and they have been superseded. The Phenom II X4 925 costs less (~$150) but offers 6MB L3 cache. The 800 models cost more than the 925 the...

    Building an Affordable "Skulltrail" System

Can't say I have... I personally prefer Intel chipsets, but you will never catch me using an Intel motherboard. If the card isn't detected at all then either it wasn't seated enough to make a connection, or it was a bad card.
