NVIDIA Defends GTX 480's Heat & Power Consumption

I was expecting a minimum of a 30% performance advantage against the HD 5870, that would have been sufficient to justify the heat, power, and cost negatives. 15% in my opinion doesn't justify squat. Take a game that runs 100FPS on a 5870... is it worth it to buy a GTX 480 just to run 115FPS? I...

    Heatsink suggestions for review

That would be amusing if true... Newegg was advertising and using this exact cooler in their 980X youtube video.

So is the 5770 like the top selling card in the world now?

At the time the only issue with the 5770 is that it offers ~4870 / 4890 performance at more than the 4890's prices. Now that 5770's can be found for $135 it's not really an issue anymore.

Should or Shouldn't You Purchase an iPad?

The iPad is an oddball device... but you can use it in ways that you can't use an iPod or iPhone-sized screen. That alone is what makes it different. It's certainly a niche product unto itself, but all indications are that it will be successful... you can quote me on that. ;) As if I needed any...

    Cooler Master R4 Fans!

I bought one off ebay just for the hell of it. Great fan... it sprints across any flat surface if not anchored (not a light fan, either), and has enough CFM to power most model aircraft (assuming you could find a large enough battery to power it). The noise is indeed deafening. It will...

How Fast is TOO fast << Processors, USB3, Sata III, SSDs... >>

I'm not as sure, but again it would depend exactly what you wanted to cache. ;) For just a couple programs it would be manageable... but in my honest opinion I don't see the hassle of caching many directories just for a single program being worth it. I'd rather buy a SATA 6Gb/s hard drive and...

    Cooler Master R4 Fans!

2,000RPM is just a bit above the threshold I'd recommend for near silence... for a 120mm fan I'd look for 1,400-1,600RPM as the range, but everyone's hearing is a bit different (along with people's definition of what qualifies as silence!). However, these are sleeve bearing fans, so that will...

Looking for suggestions for heatsinks to review

Interesting, I was never aware of their synthetic test mounting system! My only question is how sure are they that 150W is sufficient? The difference between an overclocked CPU at idle versus load by itself can add an additional 200W of power consumption. While all of that certainly isn't...

    Mid-Tower/Mini-Tower Cases

Doesn't the Antec Three Hundred use Tricool fans? On low speed these fans are rather quiet, as long as they do not suffer from vibration issues (I had two that did) then they are decent case fans.

Where are all the Fermi haters now?

There has been loads of speculation about NVIDIA and XFX in the past, this is nothing new and I sincerely doubt it had any implication on this decision. XFX had retail boxes, artwork, and everything cooked up but simply decided to pull the plug at the last minute. Given XFX is the only GPU...

So I'm looking for an mp3/video player, that isn't apple. HELP!

Let us know what you think of it and how it goes for you, Killem! I own a Sansa Express just because they were cheaper than Apple's equivalent at the time, had a good FM player, and I wanted one I could upgrade the capacity on down the road once microSD cards dropped in price. (Nothing like...

Looking for suggestions for heatsinks to review

I don't review heatsinks for Techgage, but besides the obvious difficulties how would you mount a heater to the base of the cooler? Especially so it does not actually heat the cooler itself and only transfers heat to the base? Especially with top-down coolers, that traditionally just don't...

How Fast is TOO fast << Processors, USB3, Sata III, SSDs... >>

The RAMdisk vs HDD debate has been a lengthy one and has gone on for many many years.... The problem is so far SSDs have outperformed RAMdisk hardware drives, or performed closely enough that it simply wasn't worth the jump in hardware prices. The latest one to try was the Acard ANS-9010...

So I'm looking for an mp3/video player, that isn't apple. HELP!

Sandisk makes a wide variety of good mp3 players for any option, but I haven't kept up with the versions that feature screens, so I don't know if those are worthwhile. Maybe Rob can offer some recommendations here. If nothing else I think the MS Zune series would be a cheaper alternative as well.

Where are all the Fermi haters now?

I think it says enough when a major GPU manufacturer (XFX) decides to not even market NVIDIA's flagship cards. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/news/video/xfx-jumps-gtx-480-gtx-470-ship/

Where are all the Fermi haters now?

Don't misunderstand, I never said NVIDIA would enter the CPU market. I think they would ruin their business trying. What I am saying is the processing their GPU's can do are finding more and more applications for HPC and supercomputing markets. Universities are using them to build...

    Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 4000

How does the KVM switch connect to the computers? If it uses PS/2 connections then there is nothing you can do, you would need the keyboard/mouse to each have their own USB connection. If the KVM switch connects via USB to the computers then it should work, if it does not then it is likely an...

Looking for suggestions for heatsinks to review

I'll give another vote for the Noctua NH-D14. It's the best performing cooler I have seen to date, and it comes close enough to my watercooling loop that once my CPU situation is resolved, I plan to do plenty of load testing... The Noctua is amazing in both performance and installation...
