    Never buy an Acer. EVER.

The company is Lenova(china), and they still make the thinkpad line ($$$). They also are now making a budget laptop line with many of the thinkpad features that looks promising. I don't think Acer is all bad, but DarkSynergy's experince shows the value of a full service warranty with...

    LAN centers and the future

I think they will survive, maybe even thrive, in the right location, with the right marketing plan. Besides their normal client base, could see them doing well as a (birthday, theme, group) party location, offering "internet cafe" services during otherwise slow hours. While wider broadband...

    Anybody going Dual Core?

Hard to say the value of dual core right now. Look at all the hype that 64 bit caused, and as yet there is very little consumer software that uses it. Sure dual core can run 2 seperate apps, but the killerapp will be the apps that uses both cores to multi-process.

    OCZ XTC Heatspreader

That's what I meant, steve, for some the bling factor is more important then the function. That said I do have a set of OCZ gold solid spreader dimms, and I think they look better than exposed chips, plus I've never had a heat problem with them. overall an excellent product

    System Mechanic 6

SM6 kind of took a wrong turn, trying to do too much, too automatically, the same thing that ruined Symantec s system works:( At a time when many people need a high quality, system repair and monitoring utility, the biggest and best known have gone overboard with autofixes sometime making...

    OCZ XTC Heatspreader

Yet OCZ still sells kits with solid heat spreaders, so they can't believe this is a extremely serious problem. Most tests show heat spreaders do little if anything, except (maybe) in extreme O/C's, in which case this MIGHT be worth it. they do look nice:)

Converting an internal into an external harddrive... possible?

external enclosure can work very well. but I'm wondering, if you won't be better off with a couple internal drives for the editing and a single large external drive for the final cut/long term storage and backup. I believe you'll still get the best read/write speed and response times from...
