    British riots

Gee, ya think? :D Technology makes us feel more connected but in fact many people are becomming less and less able to deal with others face to face because of it... Toss in video games where the only problem solving skill necessary is violence... then add in a whole generation of "me...

HP Pavilion G6 with linux advise (remove w7 bad idea?)

You can swap hard disks... If you have linux on one and windows on the other, the system won't even care... it'll just boot whatever's at the loader segment of the drive. I was thinking that if you should accidentally damage the connector... Rob's suggestion of Dual Booting is probably...

HP Pavilion G6 with linux advise (remove w7 bad idea?)

Changing the OS shouldn't void your warranty but changing the hard disk might... There should be a restore disk program (probably on the desktop) that will let you burn DVDs to return the computer to it's factory condition. If you make the disks you can re-create the system any time...

How Long Should a Thumb Drive Last?

Win 7... click restore defaults then start... you get a fast format.... but I think it does more than just format the drive... Or at least it seems to because I've seen that "fix" half dead drives that wouldn't format...

Is the PC Era Coming to a Close?

Smaller seems better these days... First there was the Shuttle then came ASRock all offering smaler and smaller boxes with adequate performance. Two years ago I predicted that "nettops" would make a huge mark on the desktop market and although the growth is slower than expected the...

How Long Should a Thumb Drive Last?

In windows... Computer -> right click the drive -> Format -> Restore Factory Defaults. The result is a new partition table and fat-32 but I believe (without knowing for certain) there are some config bits reset in the process. I've gotten a few semi-dead thumb drives going that way.

How Long Should a Thumb Drive Last?

"He's dead, Jim!" If you have a formatting tool that will "reset to factory condition" you could try that. I have a mess of the Datatravelers that I use with Windows 7 and I keept getting lost chains on them until I reset them to their factory states... But then, it also depends on...

USB 3.0 Could Support 100W Devices In Near-Future

I'm not waiting till some idiot brings me a burnt-to-a-crisp USB cable and complains that his hedge trimmer damaged his power supply. This is yet another case of "Technology looking for a home"... I'm quite content with my little collection of wall warts, thank you...

Zalman VF3000F GTX 570/580 GPU Cooler Review

My point exactly.... I see this stuff all the time... Audiophiles who claim they can hear --actually hear-- bit jittering in a latched sound chip... measured in nanoseconds... Gamers who argue high frame rates on 60hz monitors... hot rodders who debate the merrits of different paints in...

No worries... I should probably not have assumed you would understand I'd done the required tests in a semi-credible manner. I'll be more concise next time.
