That's odd... You should see the controller under USB Devices and the drive under Disk Drives in your Windows Device Manager. Or at least that's always worked for me. I have this thing I do... Whenever I swap out a drive for "something bigger" I will put the old drive into a sleeve...

That and one of my friends just clued me in on a new version (1.3.1249.0) that actually includes native FLAC support... They're keeping up but I do wish they'd get ahead of me... I've tested it a bit and the FLAC support seems solid so I'd say it's a go. I guess that means my note above...

When I look forward to see where things might be going, I see Very Small Form Factor (VSFF) computing... computers getting smaller and small computers getting faster. I see HTPC entirely replacing television (an expriment I already have in progress) and I see gaming becoming an almost 100%...

Have you ever studied MS's installer scripts for Windows? They aren't obvious but there are several points in the scripts where there are deliberate, built in delays... so you get more time to see the advertising that pops up while you're putting in the OS you spent your life savings on.

Yep, that's about the only bargain floating around my area... LCD prices have finally dropped to believable levels and, surprisingly, the quality seems to be holding. The ASUS and ACER lineups are favored in this area and there are some real bargains out there... but this is just normal price...

Ahhh... the old distraction problem. Been there.... I'm pretty sure that if you follow the steps you should be fine but there's a pretty good crew here so if you get stuck at least one of us should be able to help.

C++ is probably better than most. .NET and C# is a fricking bloatware disaster, Delphi isn't much better and don't even get me started on Visual Basic... The thing I like about C++ is that you can simply ignore OOP and do it old school if you want to. Right now my favorite programming...

LOL... you should see what you can do in assembler... There the smallest program is about 16 bytes... yes just four measly dwords. JMP FFFFFFFF ... the old DOS Reboot vector. I've always liked talking directly to the OS. I use WinApi code for the most part, native controls, subclassing...

Some years ago I took a bit of a side trip into Delphi. Since at the time I was setting up a few MIDI systems for people I immediatly sought out programming examples that were relevent. This one example I found makes your point perfectly... It was a little MCI demo, written in Delphi...

Ok... thanks. So we qualify that as an XP tool and I'll have to write a Win7 tool... which shouldn't be too hard. It's not like it's some huge application... the EXE is only 11k.
