    The future....

Thanks for an interresting commentary, Rob... We do have similar visions. On the HTPC front, I'm hoping we'll start to see a lot more remotely administered, "headless" systems development. This has traditionally been avoided because a lot of programmers view launching and controlling...

Maxtor OneTouch4 - What HD inside?

That's odd... You should see the controller under USB Devices and the drive under Disk Drives in your Windows Device Manager. Or at least that's always worked for me. I have this thing I do... Whenever I swap out a drive for "something bigger" I will put the old drive into a sleeve...

    Adding FLAC support to MPClassic....

That and one of my friends just clued me in on a new version (1.3.1249.0) that actually includes native FLAC support... They're keeping up but I do wish they'd get ahead of me... I've tested it a bit and the FLAC support seems solid so I'd say it's a go. I guess that means my note above...

31% of Windows 7 Issues Related to Installation?

I'm not sure you can get to that conclusion with the information from the article... 31% of the issues are installation related... But what percentage of Windows7 users are actually having problems? 31% of 1% is totally inconsequential. 31% of 50% is another massive disaster. :D Still...

    The future....

Now that was really well done... and only 498 years away....

    The future....

When I look forward to see where things might be going, I see Very Small Form Factor (VSFF) computing... computers getting smaller and small computers getting faster. I see HTPC entirely replacing television (an expriment I already have in progress) and I see gaming becoming an almost 100%...

Microsoft Releases Open-Sourced Windows 7 USB Install Tool

Have you ever studied MS's installer scripts for Windows? They aren't obvious but there are several points in the scripts where there are deliberate, built in delays... so you get more time to see the advertising that pops up while you're putting in the OS you spent your life savings on.

    Selection? What selection?

Yep, that's about the only bargain floating around my area... LCD prices have finally dropped to believable levels and, surprisingly, the quality seems to be holding. The ASUS and ACER lineups are favored in this area and there are some real bargains out there... but this is just normal price...

Techgage Readers Continue to Adopt Windows 7

Sigh ... I can see it now.... "And one person (who shall remain nameless) continues to use Windows XP...."

UAC Pop-up with No Password Box?

It's not a bug Rob ... it's an undocumented feature! It's this kind of thing that makes me wait for the service packs....

Running Blu Ray on my Customized Dell Dimension 3000

Ahhh... the old distraction problem. Been there.... I'm pretty sure that if you follow the steps you should be fine but there's a pretty good crew here so if you get stuck at least one of us should be able to help.

    Autologon tool for Windows.

C++ is probably better than most. .NET and C# is a fricking bloatware disaster, Delphi isn't much better and don't even get me started on Visual Basic... The thing I like about C++ is that you can simply ignore OOP and do it old school if you want to. Right now my favorite programming...

    Autologon tool for Windows.

LOL... you should see what you can do in assembler... There the smallest program is about 16 bytes... yes just four measly dwords. JMP FFFFFFFF ... the old DOS Reboot vector. I've always liked talking directly to the OS. I use WinApi code for the most part, native controls, subclassing...

    Autologon tool for Windows.

Some years ago I took a bit of a side trip into Delphi. Since at the time I was setting up a few MIDI systems for people I immediatly sought out programming examples that were relevent. This one example I found makes your point perfectly... It was a little MCI demo, written in Delphi...

    Autologon tool for Windows.

Ok... thanks. So we qualify that as an XP tool and I'll have to write a Win7 tool... which shouldn't be too hard. It's not like it's some huge application... the EXE is only 11k.

    The new build ...

Q-Fan is a bios feature on ASUS motherboards it's great for CPU cooling, I have it enabled in mine and have never had any problems with it. But perhaps you should also consider smart fans for the rest of it as well? For Example: http://www.vantecusa.com/front/product/pro_list/35 The...

Mozilla Suggests Dropping Google for Bing

I must be getting old or something... I just checked Bing out and didn't like it. The picture is a distraction from your reason for being there and the easter eggs are just plain silly. In fact most of the eggs read like highschool gossip. Searching with Bing is no better than with Google...

    Autologon tool for Windows.

Ah... thanks. I'd appreciate that. Little knock togethers like this aren't done for credit, Rob. They're done for results.
