    Windows crashing

Rob, this sounds like a USB error check problem... The drive is producing mass errors (probably because of corrupted data) and it's affecting everything else... Your suggestions are all excellent. It sounds like it could be drivers, but I would also suggest formatting that external drive, as...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

Heres a little trick I use in XP, and on 2000 before that... Yes, simply ignore the "My" folders... what a pain in the ass they are. Go into your home folder at "Documents and Settings\(youraccount)" and make a folder called "FileLinks". (or similar) Now go to the desktop and right...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

Oh wow, you really aren't getting this are you? It does not matter if there's a better way. It doesn't even matter if there is another way. The fact is that it is there just waiting for someone to do it that way. And when someone does do it that way... they run a 50/50 chance of blowing...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

You've never done this, have you? We aren't talking about drag and drop... file moves... this is something entirely different. Ok... try this.... Open your user folder (click your name on the start menu) Inside that you will see "My Documents" Right click on the My Documents Icon...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

Always has been. But it's even more true today than ever. People have their whole lives in their computers and data losses can --and sometimes do-- devistate entire families. Heck... even I with my double backups and careful maintenance would be totally screwed if anything ever took out...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

I really don't think you're getting your head around the significance of this error (or any other system killer, for that matter)... It isn't a matter of how we're supposed to do things... the big issue is that it's there at all. At the level of technical expertise here, these are mere...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

Ever noticed how much stuff from the 50s is still working perfectly and how much brand new stuff never works properly at all? Might be a hint in there someplace... :)

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

I was working with admin priveledges at the time, Kougar. The target drive was freshly formatted and the files were copied in from the account I was working in at the time, so I owned them. This is a task I've done hundreds of times and never once had a problem, until yesterday. Yes there...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

Hmmm... I don't think that's the case. The User folder (the one with my name on it) has a number of pre-defined shell folders. Each of these has a dialog tab to move the folder... what this is supposed to do is create the folder on a new part of the tree (drive D: in my case). The idea is the...

Windows 7 just became Vista part 2....

Well, I went against my own better judgement and spent a few days messing about with Windows 7 ... FWIW... I usually wait for the first service pack before doing stuff like this. Anyway, the first install, $249.00 worth of Win7 Ultimate, went smooth as glass. If found all my hardware and...

    Good video capture software

MPClassic has a capture function. I've seen it used with cameras and it seems to work ok. Virtual Dub alwso can do video capture, although I've never used it for that.

    Please help cpu warning cmos

It seems that either you have a CPU that doesn't overclock well or the CMOS is being changed... Don't forget, overclocking is a bonus not part of the design. Chips are rated for speeds where they perform well without overheating or drawing too much power... some have better safety margins...

    Autologon tool for Windows.

It causes the system to automatically log on to a password protected account... so you don't have to enter your name and password every time. If you're the only person using the computer (as in, its locked up in your den) it saves you the annoyance... If there's only one non-passworded account...

    TIM ...

Well, lets see, now... In the last few hours I've been accused of promoting a product because I got a free sample, told that I don't know what I'm talking about and had to listen to people who's biggest qualification is that they haven't burned down their house yet tell others to ignore...

Given that Intel does not specify your processor (i7-920) for temperatures above 68C (intel data sheet, attached) what I see in the letter you got from the Indigo Extreme guys is somebody trying real hard to justify a very expensive BAD product that has put your CPU at risk of perminent damage...

My friend... I'm thinking you are over-thinking this by a few parsecs. Here's what you got so far.... 1) A suggestion from someone who's used the stuff in a couple of hundred projects (mostly computers, but some audio as well) over an 8 year period and has never had a problem with it...
