180 Neighborhoods Met Google Fiber Quota, Rollout Begins Next Month

The same thing happened with my town oddly enough when DSL was first hitting the scene. It was awesome being on 3Mbit/s when most people I knew were on 56K or less.

WD's Subsidiary HGST Announces Helium-filled Hard Drives

From what I understand, current drive designs wouldn't allow a vacuum implementation. Some have said that it'd affect the gas that's needed to have the platters rotate smoothly while others have said you might die if you drop it on the ground and it explodes (that'd be cool to see)...

eBay Updates its Logo for First Time in 17 Years

I just go to eBay because prices are often cheaper. A new Kill-a-Watt that would have cost $37 at Newegg with shipping cost me $26 on eBay the other day. Bought simple Logitech mic also for $25, which I've paid $40 for on Newegg before. Maybe there isn't a warranty, but my stuff usually dies...

eBay Updates its Logo for First Time in 17 Years

Good point on the warranty front. I generally don't pay too much attention to those, and I do buy some things from eBay. I only buy from big reputable sellers if I can help it.

Half-Life Total Conversion 'Black Mesa' Released

People have been waiting for it for so long, so I'm glad that the ambition for it hasn't been lost. What I worry about is that we won't see the end of the game. It might become another Episode Three :S

Half-Life Total Conversion 'Black Mesa' Released

I tossed the torrent on my server and it's already uploaded 15GB worth. Seems to be a popular option.

WD's Subsidiary HGST Announces Helium-filled Hard Drives

The great thing about innovation is that it never has to end. Just when many were beginning to feel that roadblocks would prevent mechanical hard drives from progressing much further, WD's subsidiary HGST has just announced a small breakthrough. One of the biggest detriments to mechanical...

Half-Life Total Conversion 'Black Mesa' Released

Need a game to play this weekend? Thanks to the valiant efforts of some serious fans of the original Half-Life, you have one: Black Mesa. As mentioned in a post we made a couple of weeks ago, Black Mesa is a complete recreation of the game that made Valve famous, using a recent version of the...

eBay Updates its Logo for First Time in 17 Years

Microsoft updated its logo last month after having used the same one for 25 years, and this month, eBay is getting in on the action. The company has been using the same bounce-letter logo since its inception 17 years ago, but as the e-commerce giant looks to the future, a logo update should help...

Nintendo Wii U Launches on November 18, Costs $299.99 for 'Basic' Model

That is indeed what it is. If someone wants the TV, you'll be able to play your games on the gamepad, and likewise there will be special games available for it. Welcome to the forums! And I agree on the price, though it's that gamepad that's responsible for that. It no doubt will cost at...

    i5 3570K or i7 3770K

If you don't have a specific need for HyperThreading or the extra 2MB of cache (both of which are useful for things like video encoding), then I'd opt for the i5... it's a considerable savings. You sure aren't going to be unhappy with that CPU choice, I can assure you.

Nintendo Wii U Launches on November 18, Costs $299.99 for 'Basic' Model

Well, it seems the reason the gamepads don't have pricing yet is because Nintendo won't be selling them separately until games support two of them: http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/13/nintendo-wii-u-gamepad-not-at-launch/ Better hope you don't break yours.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Review

With the release of its GeForce GTX 660, NVIDIA has delivered what we feel to be one of the most attractive Kepler offerings to date. It may be a step-down from the Ti edition released last month, but the GTX 660 delivers great performance across the board, and priced at $229, it won't break the...

Nintendo Wii U Launches on November 18, Costs $299.99 for 'Basic' Model

Haul that suit of armor and javelin out of the closet, because Nintendo has finally announced the release date and pricing for its upcoming Wii U console. Why the armor and weapon? If the Wii U's launch is anything like the Wii's, you're going to need any advantage you can get to score one on...

Linux + KDE Delivers Better NVIDIA Performance than Windows

Back in August, Valve made a blog post showing off Left 4 Dead performance between Windows and Linux, and surprisingly, Linux came out ahead. Following-up with more elaborate testing is Phoronix, which has found that across the board, Linux's NVIDIA driver delivers better performance than...

NVIDIA casts doubt on DiRT: Showdown's benchmark

Seems to be a pissing match between AMD and NVIDIA on DiRT: Showdown that I didn't manage to catch. We just received this e-mail from AMD: "Recently, AMD was made aware of incorrect statements pertaining to DiRT Showdown, a Gaming Evolved partner title, by NVIDIA. Apparently our competitor...
