I forgot to mention that we drove to Nova Scotia a few weeks ago. Stayed at the Rossmont Inn on the way. It was a whirlwind trip so no chance of making contact ... but it might happen again.

    flushing out the lines ...

... .. . I have not been on *any* PC forums for a long while. Today I decided to try to log back into Tom's and finally I remember the name Techgage. Sorry about that, but Toms has been suddenly popping up in the lower right corner of my desk top. GRRRR .. have to figure out what snuk in to...

looking forward to Intel Core i7-6950X ... 10 cores!

Yes. I am building another new machine. This time it is replacing an old AMD dual-core Opteron 290s on a Supermicro dual socket m/b e/w 16 GB RAM. The system will not boot or even post. Replaced the power supply ... nope, not it. So, anyone want this mb with just the CPUs & RAM? It does not...

    when a pump fails ...

I am considering making one housing for the water cooling parts. Plumb out of it to all that need WC with separable connections. I am also an aquarist with 3 saltwater tanks so the plumbing & manifolds I am kind of comfortable with. Talk is cheap for now. I use the NVIDIAs for the solvers in...

    Hello boys, I'm back ...

I have been away for a while .. got lost  Just one 27" monitor, but would like 2 or 3. The challenge is that I have 4 computers switched thru a KVM. I would like to have the 2 or 3 on just the general purpose computer and switch the 1 monitor around with the KVM.

    Well, it's about time...

I relate to throwing money at a system, but keeping other components which are perfectly fine. Beware of keeping beige cases tho. You will be ridiculed. To wit, the recent 5960X build cost ~$2400. I will up build the other 990X to a very similar system in the couple of weeks for less...

    Hello boys, I'm back ...

The X99 A (I like the simple name) is easy to OC using the builtin utility. Of course that is not good enough, but the fun stuff is in all of the detailed settings and they are a challenge for me ... I only do this every couple of years. I managed to screw up the self recovery feature for...

    Hello boys, I'm back ...

I decided some time ago not to pretend to be an evaluator of new hardware. That's your job & I am quite happy to read the expert reviews on your site ... and then I will still wait a while. In other words, rarely will bleeding edge h/w be seen from moi. I believe double precision floating...

    Hello boys, I'm back ...

Question/opinions? Notice in "MBcpuWBramVID.jpg" (the 1st pic) that ASUS has adhesive foil stickers on 3 heatsinks. These can't possibly have any function other than to pretty things up ... wouldn't you think? Therefore, they should be removed for better heat dissipation.

    Hello boys, I'm back ...

Old stuff ... used Indigo Xtreme on this also. I had no problem setting IX back when. Note the printing on the CPU is transferred to the Indigo Xtreme. The water block pealed off the CPU.

    Hello boys, I'm back ...

The new stuff ... ... except for the video cards on the right. The wimpy one is temporary and is the old recommendation to partner with the Tesla. Pretty sure it can be put on the self in a week or so.

    Hello boys, I'm back ...

I am building a new-ish machine on an ASUS X99-A equipped w/ i7-5960X & 64 GB RAM. Both of the i7-990X systems have developed problems in the past couple of months. These are described in this forum, I think. That M/B, CPU, RAM, & Koolance 380i water block are all that I bought to get one box up...

    when a pump fails ...

Good points Thar. I replaced the pump with a new Eheim of the same model. It doesn't seem to available from PC guys any more. Performance PCs told me that people stopped buying it. I ended up getting it from Dr. Foster & Smith aquarium supplies ... who knew?!?! And, it was a very good price...

    when a pump fails ...

No damage to anything, aka the CPU. The tubing is rated to 160°F & the water definitely exceeded that rating. I replaced the tubing with more of the same that I had bought some while ago. I do have a mad scientist plan for running the plumbing of 4 machines thru 1 radiator (possibly a chiller...
