Thoughts on NVIDIA aquiring AGEIA

When Jen-Hsun Huang spoke yesterday about the purchase of Ageia at the companies financial earnings meeting, he addressed the Ageia physics engine extensively but skipped over the hardware entirely.

How do you feel about this? Yay, nay or indifferent?

Indifferent. I think it will just get covered up, and ageia will dissolve.
Unless NV actually puts one of their chips on an NV card, then that might be interesting.
Good luck NV

They are taking the software kit quite seriously but there hasn't been mention of the PhysX hardware platform at all. It will be interesting to see how they approach this... if they do at all. If not, Ageia's PhysX platform will fade into history as a minor step in the grand scheme of things.

Hardware-based physics (like the PhysX) card is just going to die... that's all I see happening. There is no chance it's going to stick around because even at a reasonable price-point, gamers still will feel like idiots paying money for added physics.

I think NVIDIA will just use the SDK to their full advantage and begin optimizing it in their own processors. But that brings up another issue... right now the PhysX SDK is free, I wonder if it's going to stay free after this acquisition, or if they are going to focus primarily on the non-public technology?
