The ASUS MARS GPU is... expensive!

The MARS dual-GTX 285 card that ASUS was showing off at Computex is produced in a limited quantity (1,000), so we already knew that the price was going to be high. But now that it's available for "pre-order" at SCAN, we can see it's actually going to be sold for a lot more than anyone probably thought... £1,030.98, or close to $1,700 USD. This even makes Intel's Extreme Edition processors seem like a steal!

I really don't see what the big deal is about this card, so perhaps someone can tell me what I'm missing. Yes, ASUS showed off Far Cry 2 running in Quad-HD, but what's stopping two regular GTX 285's in SLI from accomplishing that? Is it just the 4GB of GDDR that's making the difference?

Either way, it's a cool-looking card, but with a price like this, I'd be surprised to see all 1,000 picked up.

$1700 = a good Core i7 rig! with 24" Wide Screen LCD and a single GTX 285 to play any game! hah!

ps: no innocent animal was hurt during this message!

DOOM! you so read my mind!

I could build 3 computers for that price... Sell each of them at a mark up, and repeat.

Not a bad idea actually. Now I see how Dell was started.

I'd just spend that kind of money on a good 30" display... then use the leftover to buy a GTX 285. At around $270 for one, cards like the Mars are only for people where money is nothing but showing off their system is everything.

Asus seems to be really expanding their product line.
I got the Asus BlueRay drive for 149.xx USD and it's great
And I fell in Love with the Asus 25.5 monitor

Go Asus, Go

PS... As well, I would not go with the Mars, but it's good to see Asus is still Rockin
