Tanning beds as dangerous as arsenic?

This could well be a "scare" news post, as there are so many, but it's interesting regardless. Reports compiled from twenty different studies indicates that people who are exposed to ultraviolet radiation (eg: tanning beds), are at more risk to cancer... rates can jump up to 75%. As a result, new classifications declare that such exposure are "definite" causes of cancer, along with tobacco, chimney sweeping, and so on.

In other news, the sun can also give you cancer, so it's best to stay indoors folks!

I always thought of tanning beds as helpers to natural selection since overexposure to natural UV rays is not good, never mind the artificial ones.

It is truly pathetic to see some of the wrinkled pieces of jerky that slink out of tanning parlors.

Heh, this is well proven fact that tanning beds are worse than actual sun exposure, even those tanning beds that only emit UVA radiation.

I can't remember what The Universe show it was, but they briefly explained UVA, UVB, and UVC rays, and have a brief detour into tanning beds as they used those as an example of how ultraviolet radiation permanently damages DNA, and so on.

Sort of irony though, speaking of UV radiation two hours of swimming yesterday and I still got burned despite good quality SPF50 suncreen. :(

Haha, that made me laugh out loud. I agree though. It's bizarre how some people can have completely unnatural skin color after coming out of one of those and don't clue in.

Ugh! That's ridiculous. You must've been in a prime location, or maybe you burn easy. I'm kind of in the middle. I burn fairly easy, but never tan. It sucks... people think I never go outside (and I most certainly do every few weeks, I swear).

I do burn easily, but being this close to the equator the sun feels like it is burning you within just 30 minutes. The sunlight is just much more direct... I shudder to imagine further south as it is. For example when visiting New York for the summers when I was growing up, the sun wasn't anything near this intensity.
