Believe it or not, despite the HD 4890's launch last month, the HD 4870 is still totally relevant, thanks to ATI's current pricing structure. There's a card for every budget, and if you're willing to spend around $180, you can get hooked up with a 1GB version of the card we're taking a look at today. It's silent, keeps cool, and still delivers great performance for the money.

really weird that they sent a HD4870. a HD4890 Vapor-X 2GB would have been really nice! i read some where bout ATi releasing 40nm cards soon!? the HD4770 i think

We also have the HD 4770 card in our queue, but the time issue has been bad. I'm hoping I can clear out that soon, along with AMD's 955 and Intel's 975. I'm so behind :-(

It's a shame I don't have anything AMD in-house newer than K7, else I'd offer to benchmark both of those processors for you to help ya out... :D
