Haha, free cooling for the win. I've heard a lot of great things about that cooler... good to see there's some serious competition out there nowadays. Good luck to those who enter.

Thanks Rob! I wasn't sure where to make this thread so I guessed, let me know if ya wish to move it.

I gotta say I agree I was impressed this cooler was a match or can even beat the Thermalright Ultra Extreme, and did so at a slightly better price and with such a quiet fan. When I do build a Core i7 platform I figured I'd leave my current system (& WC loop) as-is, until I had finished playing around with the new hardware and also finished testing overclocks, etc. Which means I'd need a good air cooler!

Before this cooler came out Newegg didn't carry a single Noctua product. I suspect this cooler finally got them to change their minds.

Ahh wow, I had no idea that the cooler was that good. I held one not long ago and didn't like the feel of it to be honest, but it might be because I'm so used to the Thermalright coolers (which is used in every computer in the house here). I'm the kind of person who prefers looks over performance though I think, especially if a window is being used. Had to use Thermaltake's V1 cooler in our AMD test rig since the Thermalright didn't fit, and I have to say, that's also a great-looking cooler as wekk... if you are into the copper/blue LED theme.

Either way, great to see such great competition.
