Paying by the honor system?

“I liked the idea of simplifying things and ... the honour system made a whole lot of sense,” [owner John] Bergen says. “What irritated me about going into Tim Hortons, for example, was waiting in line for something as simple as getting a donut and a coffee. So the thought was, someone can pour his own coffee, grab his own bagel, cut it himself, throw the money in, and walk out. We don’t touch 60 per cent of the transaction.”

I am surprised as hell that this works, but it's great. It seems like it would suck if you didn't have the right change though.

There's a little place in Acworth (I believe the name is Daddy's) that uses the honor system (it's akin to the honour system but Americanized ;)) for their stuff. You go in, grab what you want and toss your money on the table. If you need change you get it off the table. From what I hear he's never had any problems.

That kind of thing amazes me...

I guess the fact is that there are a lot of people are around, are you really going to rip off an honest store in front of heaps of people? Some would of course, but there are idiots everywhere.

It amazes me too, it just goes to that show that humanity in general aren't complete douches after all.

Makes some smart financial sense to do this... avoid the costs of having to pay for a cashier, or the losses from unhappy customers that are forced to wait in line and decide to go elsewhere... would get my business in a heartbeat.

Can't count the number of times a long line ground to a complete halt while the cashier figures out how to do something, or has to fix the machine because something wasn't working properly.

15.50 an hour to work there?
I guess I could cut my salery in half to get all the free donuts I wanted?

But still, a good idea...it makes people think about themselves and also about those around them, you know...to get a scale of what people are really like.

We get taken so much by large companies, the same companies take advantage of their own workers.....for the mighty stock holder.
Suks to be them....KARMA will prevail
