No More Analog TVs to be Found at Best Buy

From our front-page news:
According to the Associated Press, Best Buy has discontinued selling analog televisions beginning this month. The retailer is ahead of schedule with this move, since the government-imposed mandate for selling digital TVs only is not effective until Feb, 2009. I have to wonder though. With digital TVs costing as much as analog models did a few years ago, why would anyone purposely pick up such a model now?

It's not a huge surprise. The government-imposed digital television mandate is fast approaching. By Feb. 18, 2009, TV broadcasters will be required to broadcast only digital signals, and TVs with only analog tuners will be unable to pick up the new broadcasts. As part of the gradual step up to digital broadcasts, all new televisions larger than 13 inches shipped to retailers after March 1, 2007, need a digital tuner. Stores are allowed to sell any analog sets already in stock.

I think that that might be a little premature by Best Buy.
This date of Digital signal only has been pushed back several times.
The cable TV industry has Digital boxes that still send an analog signal to TV sets, whether analog or Digital or High Definition.
60 Minutes had a show that was talking about the technology has advanced so much in the last 10 years that most people can't keep up with the advanced technology. More work for the Geek Squad....lol
I just think, if I was Best Buy, to serve their customers, would continue selling products even past the date of the transfer of Digital only signal broadcasts.
Also, there are too many people still using the Video Cassette Recorder.

LOL...I'm one of those folks that still uses the old VHS recorders here at home.............;) As long as it still works, I see no reason to replace it just because there is something newer out.

Are you serious? Moving to a digital TV will cease a VCR to work? I'm not familiar with it, so I'm not sure. If it cancels out VCRs though, then it would cancel out all classic game consoles as well. I dunno though, I have an HDTV and my classic consoles work. I have never owned a VCR though.
