The One, The Only...
Mouse, Software, Games, Hardware
This question gets into so many areas that I figured general D was the best spot for it.
A lil background, and something cool if you have never heard/done this
I LOVE playing free MMO's and free games in general. Maplestory was cool, and then when I managed to configure my logitech gamepad with their Wingman gaming software for it, I WAS IN ECSTASY! This was cool because there is no gamepad support for maplestory. In fact, this wingman software allows you use a gamepad with just about ANYTHING you can think of. Then I figured "If doing that was so pimp, why not try it on other games?"
Results varied, VASTLY! A lot of games require an intense use of the mouse these days, and with no way that I've found to auto center your mouse... you are basically SOL unless the game has some interesting options as to how it allows you to configure your buttons. Otherwise you might find yourself using both a controller, gamepad, and mouse; Then the question may be, Why did i do all of this?
If you do this and this and use the gamepad more than the other two, and if this experience proves to be both exciting and/or it gives me a unique play style or interface that others do not have, then yeah, you've just found a kick @$$ way for you to play.
Sometimes you can hit button x then y then z a lot faster than you can trying to stretch your fingers across the keyboard. Ever miss that console feeling of a joystick/d-pad in your left and and buttons with your right? BINGO!
Now for the question; I told you there was one
So I was playing SpaceCowboy (SCO) and it was one of those games that no auto centering for the mouse renders a gamepad useless... but a gamepad + the wingman software does work.
I have a logitech MX revolution mouse, and if you've ever seen one then you know there are ALOT of buttons on it. "How might I use these in a game", I asked myself. Well... the setpoint software will actually let you set some buttons on it for applications. It will even let you set some for games. Great right?
Well, the buttons cannot be set to a "global" or "universal" setting so I cannot set the forward, back, top button, wheel left, wheel right, side button, side wheel forward, or side wheel back buttons to do anything for SCO. I tried setting these buttons in other games but ran into the same road block with a few of them, but they will work in just about any non game program. :-/ The problem is not that setpoint doesn't set the buttons to keystrokes, it does, the games themselves seem to hate the use of these buttons on the mouse. So...
1.How do I set the buttons to something else that is global/universal that the game does not turn off? If you set the side button to "media" then you can actually still control winamp with it from inside the game. I want the back button when pressed to enter in a keystroke though, and so far it wont.
2.If I cannot set the buttons to do this, then how might I detect the mouse as a gamepad and thus set the buttons that way? A possible answer would be to set the mouse as something that is detected as a gamepad and thus the buttons can be set universally! How I could do this??? Hell if i know right now.
If ANY of you have an answer to either of these questions... please reply.
thanks in advance.
