Fractals, those neat designs that use an infinite number of identical patterns to generate something interesting to stare at, appear simple at the surface, but are in actuality insanely complex to understand. In some cases, such as with the famous Mandelbrot set, you almost have to be a mathematician (or at least, not me) in order to understand the very basics of how the design is built.

Math invades our daily lives and if more people realized it they'd be disappointed their favorite music is trying to subliminally teach them. Here is a prime example:

That song is truly amazing in so many ways. It's not just music, it is highly complex timing and sequencing to fit everything together nearly perfectly. I had always had high respect for Tool, but the Laterlus album sealed it for me since I am somewhat of a math freak.

Now that is indeed cool. They would put the Helix nebula in there or 'eye of god' - shame it didn't have a time reference close to its code name of NGC 7293. There must have been some serious figuring out with all the music composition to get everything lined up, creating audio loops is hard enough, but lyrics and an entire album matching a Fibonacci spiral....
