Is the G7 the killer wireless gaming mouse we've been waiting for? Included is the proven design of the other Logitech gaming mice, spare battery and even DPI control.

Hi, I have the G7 mouse, and like it.
However, I am not too sure about its button life, as I have had to return my first one to Logitech as the left button packed up, and it is not sounding too good on this replacement.
I had the first mouse for about 9-10 months before the left button gave way, and I put it down to too much clicking in C&C Generals/Zero Hour :)
What happened was that if I left clicked on an icon on the desktop, it would just double click it, and other irritations that made the mouse pretty much useless.
Logitech support was excellent after I contacted them. After swapping details (mouse s/n etc) they sent me a replacement from Switzerland (I am in the UK) and I just had to return the USB dongle to complete the transaction.
This second mouse is a few months old, and already I can detect that the left mouse button is not firmly clicking as it should, so maybe the micro switch (or whatever is used) is also on its way out ?
Other than that, I like the mouse, but I wish it had the same number of buttons as my previous MX1000.
The battery swap is very easy and takes seconds to do, but I usually find that I forget to check the battery state before a game, and it always runs out in the middle of a fire-fight
Overall for me, it fits nicely in my hand, the non-slip pads are nice and big, and very responsive. I also like the ability to change the resolution (1-3 built in options) with the press of a button on the fly.
The G5 which I have also used is much the same but wired.
Nice mouse, but I am not sure about its working life.

My mom had a similar problem with her MX 1000. She couldn't double-click, only single-click.

How do you feel about it's battery life in general? I am on my PC all day, and I have to change the battery at least once a day... which I find a little ridiculous. I am just wondering if I just got a bad mouse or something.

I agree with you though, it's a great mouse. The lack of a forward button hurts, and I have no idea why they decided to scrap it. Maybe they found that people were not using it?

Good to know about the button issues though. I'm looking forward to seeing where my G7 will be a few months down the road =)

I didn't have any mechanical problems with my MX1000, but I did have a bit of a problem with the charger cradle............sometimes it would charge ok, and others I had to wiggle the mouse about in it to get it to charge up, but at least it would last for a good few days on a charge.
As for the G7, like you, I have to change the battery once a day, sometimes twice, if I am at home and do a lot of gaming.
Yes, I do miss all the buttons that the MX1000 had, but on the G7, I have the side button for 'back' and flick the wheel to the left to 'close' and to the right to 'maximise' so it covers most things I need.
To me, the left button seems to be the weak point........for me anyway :)

Hah, I hear you. I used to use the back button to bring up the buy menu in CS: Source... completely easy. I still use my MX518 on the gaming PC though.. that design is a winner, along with the G5.

I had the same problem with the MX1000 charger... glad I am not the only one ;-)
