Thirty-four-year-old Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs, a beloved fixture of both the New York and Athens, Georgia, rock scenes who played with LCD Soundsystem, !!! (pronounced Chk Chk Chk), Turing Machine, MSTRKRFT, and The Juan MacLean, died Saturday night in a fall after attempting to crawl out of a broken elevator shaft at a benefit party in Brooklyn.

I never knew who Jerry was prior to reading this article, but I'm very familiar with some of the bands he's drummed for as I own some of the albums. What caused his death really makes you think about things. He was stuck in an elevator, and tried to jump out to the nearest floor, when his jacket caught onto something and yanked him back, sending him falling. I've never been stuck in an elevator, but this kind of thing puts things into perspective. If you're in a situation like this, it's best to wait for help and not rush things, even if it seems like you can get away just fine.
RIP Jerry.
