There are many scanners out there today that boast a great deal of features that would be appealing to the casual user and the professional alike. Today we are looking at the HP Scanjet 4890. It has many great features, one that most impresses me, film scanning. Want to know more? Read on!

Thanks for this review. We had been unable to obtain help with the scanner for slides, and this reinforced our findings re some blotchy colours. On the whole it is pretty good. We are still learning, and wish the scanner had more basic instructions in usage for beginners.

Does anyone know if the HP4890 can be set up so that both the lower and upper [backlight] work simultaneously - the objective is to be able to scan a 3d object with a backlight, such as a feather which would allow the backlight to shine through any translucent/transparent areas as colour and white. Any ideas anyone please?

Pic problem

Whenever I go to scan a picture of something I get yellow lines or streaks across the pic. I have tried cleaning the glass and turning off the machine to let it cool off but so far no luck! Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my scanner? Any help will be and is needed with this problem. I would enclose an example of the problem but haven't seen where I can do that. Thanks for nay help....... Smitty

From a scan, it wouldn't be the glass since it's not scanning the glass, so it might be the scanner part itself. I am not familiar with scanners at all, but I'd take a look around the inside and make sure everything looks clean.

As for submitting a photo for example, only members who are logged in can do that.
