Once a year the people around these parts and other various states get together for what is called 'Cruisin the Coast'. People break out some of the best cars that have ever been built. I'm talking about the classics, muscle cars. For a whole week people gather at venues all along the Gulf Coast.

Excerpt from the official site
"Cruisin' The Coast® has become a major tourism boom for the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the biggest special event in the state of Mississippi. Car enthusiasts from over 37 states and Canada drive to the Mississippi Gulf Coast once a year to showcase and to cruise a variety of antique, classic and hot rod automobiles at designated stops along the Coast in Ocean Springs, Biloxi, D'Iberville, Gulfport, Bay St. Louis, and Waveland."

Now I know none of you know any of these cities, but they are the main one's in the 3 coastal counties. It's a whole week of classic cars riding around to area "hot spots". I was lucky enough to hit the local drag strip tonight and catch some of these beauties in action. I had a great time and hope I can share some of it with you guys!

Here are just a few of the treasures the muscle car era produced.

Sorry about the lighting. I'm pretty sure the flash wasn't made for such dark conditions. I am impressed with the turnout though. I believe it's going to be an all day thing at the track tomorrow. When I get some stuff done around the house I might make it back.

These were taken with a Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 7.2MP camera. I took 226 pictures and several minutes of video tonight. Battery indicater reported 186 minutes, and a total of 657mb of data on the card when I had finished.

The Falcon wasn't at the show, he'd blown the trans at the track a few weeks prior. It turns mid 9's BTW.

The SHO was my fave, 700+hp and 175MPH+. Totally insane!

Hey now, a good portion of my heritage is Cajun. The family on my father's side are scattered all over the Gulf, around Biloxi and Gulfport primarily (which is where he grew up).

Haven't visited since Katrina, though. How's the coast shaping up?

I was being a bit sarcastic ;), but it's coming along fairly well! :D It's a ton better than what it was when I left. Having Cruisin' the Coast back in action has really raised the spirits around here. It's giving people hope that things life will return to normal, soon. It's good to see the turnout. I was really impressed at how many cars have shown up. We just had CPR Fest, an annual rock concert, a couple weeks ago. Something that tells the community we're still here and we're still strong.

Thanks for inquiring! Most people don't realize how much Mississippi was affected. New Orleans was about the only city you saw on the news. When in reality it was almost the whole coastline.
