Good review Rob. I will put money on the next installment will be a MP only game, like UT or Q3, don't ask me why I think this it's just a gut feeling.
The game
felt like a good MP candidate to me, thanks to its fluidity and focus on fast-paced action. The game as it is I don't think could become an MP unless some changes are made, mostly with weapons. With ammo so common, I found myself using the railgun a
lot. It ammo was just as prevalent in MP, everyone would want to use the railgun... and that'd be boring (railgun is one shot kill for regular enemies).
Still, I think a great MP game could be built with this engine. As I mentioned in IRC I think it was, the game reminds me a lot of Unreal Tournament in terms of level design and the ultra-tight control, not to mention the fast pace.
I am not sure if they can really be trusted, but the initial numbers of concurrent players in the game at Steam has never surpassed 1,000 since its launch, so I hope that this game is selling well other places. I find it so odd that one month ago people were drooling over this title, and then when it launches, the excitement seems to have tamed, even though it's a good game. The Steam forum for the game is barely active compared to other new releases. Perhaps the game would have sold a lot better if it did have MP, nowadays that's something a lot of people care about.

It seems however Hard Reset is poised to be DLCed or Sequeled as the story ends abruptly and leaves out key elements that were at its core earlier. It feels the game is telling you "I'll be back".
I am not sure if DLC is planned to be honest. More often than not, if a game is to have DLC, it can be right-clicked in Steam and show "View Downloadable Content" even when there isn't any at the time. There is no such option for this game. That's not to say there won't be, I've just seen no word of it.
